Works and Looks like New
The laptop came well packaged, and looked new. It had the correct operating system, and ran without any issues.

Good machine. Fair Price.
Most of the time I use a beefy desktop PC in my home office, but I needed a decent "beater" notebook for when I teach programming classes on the road. This fit the bill. The entire machine came with a vinyl skin on it. I assume it had nicks and dings from the previous owner, so I assume the seller freshened it up with the skins. It looks very presentable and works great. I didn't really like the textured feel of the vinyl skin on the trackpad so I peeled that piece back off. Also there are a few blacked out pixels, but they're not a major problem. This nice little portable is exactly what I expected for the price.

In good condition where it matters
The laptop came in a protective packaging and included a charger. The charger is not an original Dell, but it works just the same. Performance-wise, the laptop works great. No issues with any components. Of course, since it's a used laptop, it has some scratches on the cover. However, it came with a protective skin to mask it. The skin has brushed aluminum texture and looks/feels really nice. No scratches on the screen itself or on the trackpad. A few keys felt sticky, but it didn't take long to clean them up from sticky residue. This laptop model generally runs silent, but even under a load the fan is not that noisy.

Buying a refurbished laptop is a lottery
Rating: ★★☆☆☆This was my second time buying a refurbished laptop. The first time, I had to return it because it came with a defective keyboard. I decided to try again… and unfortunately, I had another bad experience.First of all, the delivery was a disaster. Amazon marked the item as “delivered,” but it had been dropped off at a random neighbor’s house two blocks away. Luckily, that neighbor was honest and brought it to me later that night. When I contacted Amazon support, I kept getting automated responses saying “don’t worry, your package will arrive within 48 hours” — even though it was already marked as delivered and clearly missing. Not reassuring at all.Now let’s talk about the laptop itself: the Dell Latitude 5420 is an excellent machine — when it works as expected. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for me.The laptop arrived with two mismatched RAM modules: one original Samsung 2133MHz (Dell OEM), and one generic Chinese 3200MHz module that wasn’t even the same brand, speed or quality. As a result, the computer was throwing memory errors on every boot, and I had to diagnose the problem myself.I ended up opening the laptop, identifying the issue, and purchasing a second Samsung module on my own to fix it. Now the laptop runs flawlessly with 32GB in dual channel — but that’s thanks to my own effort and money, not the seller’s.In short: this seller sent me a laptop with incompatible parts and poor quality memory. It may pass a quick test, but clearly wasn’t properly checked or rebuilt with care. The machine itself is great. But my experience — again — proves that buying refurbished is a gamble. You might get a great unit… or you might get whatever they had lying around inside the case.

WHEN THE SAID EXCELLENT CONDITION, THEY MENT IT
this laptop is literally in brand new condition. Not 1 scratch or ding. I'm setting it up and if need be will change the stars if there is a problem. But so far so good!
