JM1-884 Floor Lamp, Black

This is a very attractive torchiere style lamp that fits in well with other antique bronze pieces in my living room. The glass shades arrived intact and are very nice looking with faint swirls around the circumference. Overall, this lamp looks much more expensive than it really is. it is well weighted and not tippy. The reading lamp is mounted on a gooseneck pole so it can be adjusted in any direction a person would find suitable.Not sure why a few others complained it was difficult to put together because I had it up and running in about 10 minutes. The pole sections fit together tightly and there is NO wobble as with some other inexpensive halogen torchiers I've had in the past. A tool is included for first loosening then tightening the nut that keeps the smaller shade in place. The reading lamp uses a candelabra-base bulb (a very bright 40-watt incandescent bulb is included while the primary, standard-base bulb is not. I prefer "soft sunlight" bulbs so had to order one to fit the reading lamp portion.There is a descrepancy in the description relating to the light switch(s). The description indicates there are two rotary switches, one for the reading lamp and another 3-way switch for the main lamp. I've sent a note to Amazon to correct the description as there is just a single 4-way switch. First position is reading lamp on, 2nd is main lamp on, 3rd is both lamps on, and 4th is off. I actually prefer the 4-way since I will be using cfl daylight bulbs which are neither 3-way or dimmable.My one and only design complaint does relate to the switch. It is located just under the large shade and is too high to be reached while seated. I need to select which setting I want prior to sitting down. Small point and just a minor inconvenience and I will not deduct a star for it.I am extremely happy that this is not a halogen torchier which can get very, very hot during operation. As with some other "incandescent-style" torchiers the bulb does not lay sideways but the base allows it to stand straight up thus allowing for higher wattage cfl bulbs. Regardless of what you use, be sure to stay at or under the recommended wattage.I'm looking forward to getting many years of service from this beautiful lamp.

I was looking for a good middle range priced lamp to supplement what I already had in my living room. I wanted to lamp with at least two different light sources and would really have liked one that worked with three-way bulb. Though this lamp didn’t have the three-way bulb option available it did have the two light sources, plus a very reasonable price, that made it so attractive to me. The other lamp I have has a similar style with one light fixture at top and the second usable as a reading lamp.Let me start what I hope is enough detail to help others make the decision by saying that the overall quality of lamp appears to be fairly high. It is a heavy lamp with most of the weight in the base. This gives it a good foundation and makes it very difficult to tip over, something good when you have dogs and grandchildren running to the house. The pole raises the light sources high enough that the side lamp can be easily used for reading the top lamp give sufficient illumination to light a full quarter of the room. The top light source can carry up to 150 W, but I find 75 W to be ample for my use. I have a 40 W bulb in the reading lamp and this seems to work very well. Most importantly, I can use this lamp along with my original lamp to help light the room without throwing it in a harsh light and becomes an excellent place to visit with my sons or friends.Another very positive thing about this lamp is the design and overall work quality. I am very happy with the color of the shades, which are nice off-white color, and how they fit on the lamp. In addition the metal ornamental system used to hold the glassware in place adds a lot to the overall beauty of the land. This is a lamp they can easily fit in almost any home and add to the designer decorating scheme.I would easily recommend this lamp for anyone for something to fit near a couch, loveseat or a reclining chair. The lighting options, a single on the top, a single on for reading, or both on it once, gives you lot of options for use in almost any room. Price point is excellent for the quality received, and if damaged I would deftly consider buying the same lamp again.
