Which one is better, this or an electric cleaning brush?

Depends on which electric. When the bristles wear out, I buy another one of these for not much money. I also use the stiff brush and for pseudo scraping a lot. The electric no doubt will cost more, probably break… does the electric you’re considering have replaceable brush heads? Brush stiffness, brush density, length of handle, etc. possible benefit of powered brush is the head of the brush could be less likely to bang against my hand wash items while trying to clean nooks and crannies…

how often do you switch them out?

I don't switch out. Wash well and shake out well then use a UV light to sanitize. Follow manufactures recommendations for light. This is the go to brush most times. For difficult debris removal use wide spaced brush to comb until fully cleaned while rinsing continually as well as shaking out. Do not use in hot cookware. If you see flattened bristols, that is what has happened. Gently advise all likely to use !! Better before than after.
