Does the job at a affordable price

These are a little tough to solder, but once you get the hang of it, they're good for replacement cables. I would suggest sanding the pins before soldering as there seems to be a coating from the factory that repels the solder. If you don't, it's easy to overheat the pin and melt it right out of the connector.

These are great for multi cable connections when crafting automotive communications and systems for plug n play.

These are junk. The holes in the pins are way too small, solder will not stick to the pins, and the plastic holding the pins melts very quickly and allows the pins to migrate before any solder can flow. I know how to solder very well. I was using good 60/40 rosin core solder and a high quality HAKO iron, a combination that typically makes quick work when soldering connectors.

Hard to solder to without overheating and melting and the shroud just slides around

These are pretty garbage connectors. There is only a tiny, shallow cup to solder to and the plastic melts very easily making them a nightmare to work with. OTOH I could not find a better alternative.
