Q: How long is the cord for the pug-in receiver?

No cord - it just plugs into the outlet and remains there. The plug in prongs are a part of the back of the receiver - just plug it in. I suppose you could use a common extension cord to place the receiver in a more remote location where you do not have an outlet but not sure why you would want that.

Q: Is one doorbell paired with one receiver and the other doorbell paired with the other receiver? We want to use each doorbell/receiver in 2 classrooms

With regards to the query - "Can I push a button and answer" - Quick answer: NO; only one-way communication between doorbell transmitter and its companion receiver. The query "about adhesive not working" - I suggest NOT trying to screw into the back of the transmitter - instead use either a thin metal rectangular sheet or a thin wood strip (cut from a paint stirrer) and using flat headed screws attach same to your siding; now, using the adhesive strip provided apply to the back of the transmitter and press this combo on to the 'object' that you just screwed to your siding.
