![The Meg [DVD] [2018]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81PjHR7t7ML.jpg)

In the film, a deep-sea submersible (part of an international undersea observation program) has been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific...with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is recruited by a visionary Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter Suyin (Li Bingbing), to save the crew-and the ocean itself-from this unstoppable threat: a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. What no one could have imagined is that, years before, Taylor had encountered this same terrifying creature. Now, teamed with Suyin, he must confront his fears and risk his own life to save everyone trapped below...bringing him face to face once more with the greatest and largest predator of all time. Let's put Jaws, Jaws 2, Jaws 3D in a Blender with The Abyss, and Jurasic Park and see what happens!
From this film, it appears that the book's author, screenplay writers, and/or producers decided to cut and paste parts of Jaws, Jaws 2, and Jaws 3D together and make the shark bigger and more deadly and lump a Prehistoric label on it.Having said that, it's not too bad for an entertainment/action/thriller movie if you don't think about it too much. It's pretty easy to see who's going to get eaten and when at some points, but after eliminating the three characters who obviously have Plot Armour all through the film, it's an interesting ride to see who of the support cast is going to make it all the way through. It's nice to see the obvious AH characters not being total AHs all of the time but occasionally have moments of constructive contribution.

Best creature feature in years
The effects are spot on and the acting is way better than a creature feature usually gets. Stantham is more believable than most who do the tortured hero role and it just moves along at a really fast pace with a sense of believability to it. Great fun. Great action and a great watch.

Truly worth a watch inspite of generic cliches this does have its own unique twists
For the first third of the movie , the plot is pretty predictable, although the whole production is really well cast, acted and produced. However after the Jaws on steroids like moments the last two thirds take a leap into a much more frenzied action, horror plot softened by a touch of humour , but of the sort that has you gripped to the chair and inability to draw breath.Very watchable in any situation as a family, afternoon or evening and alone. Not iconic, but hard to criticise in that it fills all the parts most of us need ....ie gripping, exciting, well produced, High budget and satisfying ending.Enjoy everyone🤣😅😂😀😍

Fine for Young Kids
You'll really not want to invest your time and money in watching this unless you have kids you need to keep entertained. For anyone older than 14 (and that's maximum) there's a great many superior options available. The concept of a roused megalodon wreaking havoc is an interesting one, but it seems wasted on a film like this. To see it portrayed in a thriller/serious disaster film would have been far preferable. Still, what's here is okay. The cast put in generally fine performances (although it's obvious none of the parts are particularly challenging) with Jason Statham taking the lead in his typecast role as a troubled, raspy-voiced action-man who's here to redeem himself and save the day.Rainn Wilson featured quite heavily in the promotion, but his part is really quite minor. He portrays the clichéd greedy industrialist whose materialism and disregard for the environment awoke the sleeping dragon (or, in this case: slumbering megalodon). The effects are consistently high quality (as one would hope for considering the multi-million dollar budget). It does have some depth (pardon the pun) nearer the middle as it explores the natural impact of deep-sea drilling, but this is abandoned as any sympathy for the megalodon's plight is forgotten in favour of a climactic action scene wherein everyone has to come together to defeat the beast. It's a bit longer than it needed to be, but it doesn't really drag at any point. The soundtrack is passable but you're likely to forget it the moment after the credits finish rolling (similar to what you might expect out of a film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe). There's not really any innovation when it comes to cinematography or the technical aspects of the film, so don't expect much in that regard. It borrows heavily from 'Jaws' (as you would probably expect) but does so in a way that it's quite blatantly ripping it off as opposed to merely paying homage or taking inspiration. It's not really worth seeing for adults on their own, but if you have a few hours to kill with some kids who need something reasonably entertaining and family-friendly to watch: 'The Meg' is a safe pick to go for.

5 Star B Movie...Everyone Else Be warned...
The Meg is a B movie from start to finish. An incredibly expensive B movie that looks amazing, but a B movie nonetheless. If you're looking for that kind of fun (think Sharknado, Rampage etc) then you will probably enjoy this. It's a pop corn flick, so serious cinema connoisseurs may need to look elsewhere. Then again if you are a cinema buff why are you looking at The Meg in the first place? For serious film buffs there will be also other issues. The film looks amazing, very detailed, great use made of HDR throughout...but not very filmic. Grain is absent (or at least so minimal that I couldn't see it) so I guess this was all shot on digital. That's gonna be fine for some but others will be less happy. When comparing the 4K to the Blu Ray all I can say is the Blu Ray looked soft in comparison. DVD compared to HD levels of difference. Obviously it is still a Blu Ray so it looks better than DVD but it looks dreadful when compared to the 4K.So...if you want B movie fun and have hardware that can play a 4K disc you will probably find that this is an enjoyable film. It's not Jaws, but these days what is?
