Thistle or Niger seed is tiny. Those feeders have just a tiny slot for birds like Goldfinch. Others can't get to them except destructo the squirrel. Squirrel guard above seems to work if hanging on wire.

Q: How long is the feeder?

The feeder container is 12 inches long, the handle/hanger is another 4 inches.

Q: Are the perches/feed holes plastic or metal?

They are plastic. It's all plastic except the hanger up top. It worked great until the crazy squirrels chewed and pulled out the bottom feeder hole so destroyed the bird feeder.

Q: Does it come with seed

No. It does not. You can buy various types of seed (depending on the types of birds you have in your area) through Amazon. I use Black Oil Sunflower Seed (most smaller birds), Black Niger Thistle (Goldfinches, & others), and in a flat feeder, Raw whole peanuts (when available--for Jays, woodpeckers & flickers, & squirrels).
