15 Years of Use and Still Look Great
Years ago, I bought this carpet protector for my mom, who was concerned that the new cream-colored carpet on the stairs of her split-level ranch would quickly become grimy with everyday traffic in and out. This turned out to be a great solution. The fabric is unexpectedly thin, with a slight terry-like nap on the upper surface and foam on the underside. The foam grips carpet and tile extremely well in my experience, and the thinness of the material allowed it to conform neatly to the stairs, without any hazardous wrinkles or folds. Because a split ranch has two half-flights of stairs, my mother was easily able to cut the runner in half to address both sets. The cut edge was clean and there was nothing to unravel. The thinness was also an advantage when it came to cleaning, as it was easily picked up and thrown into a standard washing machine. She left the runners on the stairs permanently, or at least until she left the house. She gave me the runners when she moved out and I washed them and stored them. A year later, I found myself in a house with light carpets and an endless stream of contractors coming through with heavy boots and dirty soles. I remembered the runners, and laid them from the entrance and through the living room every time I had work done in the house. Two weeks ago, I felt compelled to look for these again and buy more so I could extend the coverage all the way down the hall. They were hard to find, but I finally found one vendor on Amazon and purchased them immediately. I was so happy they were still being manufactured! These are truly hard-working, humble little runners; lightweight and easy to drop into place when needed, readily picked up again, wash up beautifully, compact to store, and the the protection they have provided my carpet and tile has been invaluable. My obvious initial concern - especially as the material was so thin - was durability. I have to admit I was not impressed when I originally touched them, as they simply felt fragile. But the runners I bought my mother are over 15 years old now, and after about 7 years of full-time use in her home and 8 years of periodic temporary use in mine, they still look like new. They have never punctured or torn, and dirt and grime wash out of them easily. I am so glad to have them, and they are a relatively inexpensive insurance policy for your expensive carpet.

mostly useless for the reason it's sold.
If you plan to use this on a flat floor to protect a heavily used walking path, DON'T, because it does not stay put. As you walk it will tend to bunch up a bit and move around on the carpet. Since it does that on flat carpet, I DEFINATELY would not trust it on a carpeted stare case because if it moves enough, it could cause a trip and fall that could be disastrous. Enough said.

Looks great and very effective!
I bought this for the cream-colored carpet on the stairs of my townhouse, which I could see would quickly become dirty with everyday traffic. This turned out to be the perfect solution. The fabric is thin, with a slight terry-like nap on the upper surface and foam on the underside. The foam grips carpet and tile extremely well, and the thinness of the material allows it to conform nicely to the stairs, without any wrinkles or folds. It's easily thrown into a washing machine and it comes out great. The the protection this has provided my carpet has been invaluable. It has never punctured or torn, and dirt and grime washes out easily. I'm really glad I bought this. I get a lot of compliments on it , and it's a great insurance policy for your carpet.

Good Non-Slip Carpet Stair Protectors
These non-slip carpet & floor protectors are made well to us.We bought two of them for basement stair carpet protections.I like them for good tractions. They trap hairs. dirt and linens well. They are basically dirt and dust collectors for us.Then we dust the hairs and dirt off monthly to outdoor. They are easy to clean and durable for us so far. They are good buys and good values for us.We may come back to update to see how long they last in the end.

Works on carpeted stairs but looks cheap
we have carpeted stairs going from our basement to the first floor and then to the second floor. The stairs get a lot of traffic and the carpet gets dirty, Especially in the middle part of each step as well as the nose of the step. We were looking at options for runners that could be easily removed and cleaned, So as to keep the underlying carpet clean. we bought this runner specifically for this purpose. The runner is made out of thin towel like material with fine foam like backing. I think it holds onto the carpet because of the static and really does not move much, which is a strong point. If, as other reviewer's have pointed out, it is easy to wash, that is another plus for this product. However, there are two issues with this item. First, aesthetically, it does not look anything like the picture and looks like a cheap piece a towel thrown on the stairs. Second, the type of material gets a lot of imprints which show as irregularities on the runner, making the visual appearance even more unappealing.

Very good carpet protection
After recently replacing the carpet on our basement stairs, I wanted to preserve the new look for a while. I bought this protector to try out. I am happy using it. I wanted to minimize the appearance of a dirt path on the steps and this does the trick. Yes, this is thin, foam backed material but there is a slight stretch and it is durable. It's been perfect for our carpeted stairs to the daylight basement where there is heavy traffic in our 2-person household. You'll notice it grabs up a bit of debris from your "up/down" - but think about it: if it were not on this protector it would be in the carpet . In the past, I have cleaned it up by shaking it out and vacuuming but recently I just washed it as the instructions say: On "Delicate" warm or cold water; tumbled dry on "Low", till dry and voila - like new. I'm not sure how many washings it can handle with time. For right now, the protector is minimizing the appearance of a carpet crush path. And it IS a ONE person job pulling up AND laying back down; I've tried it both ways and it is best for one person. Roll up the protector to take off and once laundered, roll it up before applying again. That way you just unroll it into place from top step - down a step at a time to place - to bottom, easy-peasy.
