Fender Flares & Body Rusty
I just opened the box last night and briefly read the instructions. Necessary Mechanical Skills, on a 1-10 scale, is a 6. 1.Must be able to follow instructions if this is your first rodeo. 2.Must have help or a huge roll of tape to hold the parts in place until you are sure it looks and fits right. 3. Two tricky parts: a. If your fender opening are “MICHIGAN WINTER GONE”, you will have to get creative and possibly attach to 1/4 panel or in the front to the fender outer surface. They give no hints. b. Many attachments use existing holes in the horizontal, inward facing flange of the wheel opening. If you live in the rust belt and the truck had been through 2 winters those holes and screws are toast. You may have enough metal to drill it out to decent metal and go to a 5/16” bolt and nut. No need for thread lock. Winters is coming and fasteners will be permanently rusted on after one salt day.Start slow, if this is your first. The flares are flexible. You may put all the bolts on, stand back and realize you got it all catty-whompass (aka: cock-eyed). So, put 2 bolts in, stand back, if it looks good do a few more, look again. Be careful tightening bolts, they could distort the flares.I was a Ford Body Engineer for almost 20 years and this is the kind of stuff we did. We also did corrosion protection. There was a time that Ford had corrosion design requirements that would not allow the level of corrosion we now see on cars less than 10 years old in Northern Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and the other rust belters. Ford was losing sales due the horrible rust buckets in the late 60’s and early 70s. I bought a 72 Maverick and it had the new spec corrosion protection plus I had it Ziebarted. No rust at 10 years in southern Michigan and it was a daily driver. Now is a different story, if you make 2 years you are lucky. The USA car makers are swirling down the commode faster than a 5# turd! I’m 3rd generation Ford, mom worded at Dodge Main. That use to be something I could boast about. I was a car guy. I have a watch my dad got from Packard for 10 years service, the face says: “ ASK THE MAN THAT OWNS ONE”.

SPARE YOURSELF
Where do I start? When I first received the order one of the flares was totally scratched. The packaging was very poor as the flares were all packed tightly together with just a single sheet of plastic around each one. I contacted the company and requested a replacement. They sent one out which took another week to receive. I received the new one and that one was also scratched. The company had the audacity of stating that it’s a minor issue that does not affect the product and asked if I would accept a small amount as a refund. This issue held me up for more than three weeks. If I’m buying a new product I expect it to be new without damage. But it gets worse than that. Every bit of hardware that comes with these things does not match. They do not fit, the bolts are not long enough, the clips do not fit even close to the holes that are provided, and the flares do not fit correctly on my 2007 Ford F150 of which I was told they would fit. So I wound up making multiple stops at different hardware stores and bought one and a half inch self drilling screws. I used them to the best of my ability. Unfortunately they are still too small and I’m still searching larger bolts which will fix this problem for a more aesthetically pleasing look. It’s incredibly unfortunate. I cannot tell you enough to avoid this product and issue until they fix it.There should not only be longer bolts but there should be different sizes based on the depth because certain areas will be deeper than others. It’s a poorly designed package and whoever decided this was a good idea should be seeking new employment. It was really unfortunate and I was really looking forward to installing these and it wound up costing me much more money and a ridiculous amount of stress and running around. It is not worth it. I hope this company fixes those problems. I’ve seen similar reviews and it seems they still have not done anything about this issue. The molding does not fit correctly, the bolts are not even close to a proper length, the clips do not fit and all of the other hardware does not match this system.Do not waste your time. I wish I spent another hundred plus dollars on a set that actually has a proper package.

Not for everyone
Arrived today.Taking the parts out of the box. It was obvious that the are very flimsy and not of high quality.I wouldn’t call it hard to put them together but it takes a long time to put bolts washers and nuts on all the outside predrilled holes of the flares and the outside edge trim is time consuming too. After the first edge trim on I found that using a few drops of glue when installing edge trim kids help but It took me about 4 hours to do that.I called it a night and tomorrow I will start putting them on my blue 2011 f150.I will complete the review or start a new one once done and maybe I throw a before and after pis of the vehicle.Stay tuned to my completion of this review.Thank you and have blessed day.
