Recommend.
Superb piece of kit. The USB C allows both charging and programming from a PC using software such as CHIRP, without the need for additional driver disc and specialised cable. Very reasonably priced and functioned very well indeed when a large party of us went to the Yorkshire Dales. Volume and sound quality was good.

These are not toy walkie talkies, far better
This is a set of 4 walkie talkies enough for a whole family or team if you are involved in a team pursuit. They are easy to setup and charge using USB cables so can be charged virtually anywhere you can find a USB power source. Battery life is also good on a full charge. To use you simply select the same frequency on each handset and then press a button to talk. Quality of sound is very good and range is superb with no drop off in the sound quality over longer distances. The maximum range is claimed to be a couple of miles, I don't know if that is true but they definitely work fine over several hundred yards without any issues.Size of the walkie talkies is also nice and compact and they are relatively light as well meaning you can slip them in your pocket when out and about. Great for walking holidays or being out in the country and keeping contact even where a mobile won't work.

An excellent value/quality balance Max real world range is about a mile.
I have given these five stars considering the value/quality balance, they do not have the bells and whistles of more expensive ones but some things about them are great.I have used radios and walkie talkies all my adult life for work and in my sport so I have plenty to compare these to.They are built to a price but it comes with some unexpected bonus points, like a USB C instead of a bulky base charger. (that is a great feature) and the lack of a screen. On most low and mid budget radios you get a plastic screen which is generally the first thing to break, not on these.Build quality is OK, nothing seemed feeble or likely to break everything moved pressed and twisted as it should. If you understand these things then setup was easy. If not it may take you 20 mins to understand how they work. Only 16 channels but that is plenty.I charged them up overnight then we took them out in our cars, I would say that they were reasonable up to a mile whilst we were in our cars driving more than that and the signal started to break. I went up a small hill with line of sight about 2 miles away that was too far, some signal did come through. So the maximum line of sight range is about 1.5 miles which is what they claim. That is with a clear line of sight. In built up areas it will be less. They are easy to use I did not try a headset/mike but it looks standard. If those specs suit you I would give them a try, they are returnable.

Good value for FOUR walkie talkies but range was poor
I like the idea of having some walkie talkies for use in an emergency - you never know when the mobile network is going to go down so I can imagine situations where these could be useful. A 4-pack is very handy for all the family to use. (They are actually supplied as two 2-packs.)Charging is easy with a USB-C connection. I did find that for some reason these were unwilling to charge when connected by a USB C-to-C cable to one of my best high power chargers, but they charged fine using the supplied USB A to C cables and a standard USB A charger. The batteries clip onto the rear of the walkie talkies and they can be charged separately. It looks like there is an option to stand them in a "charging base" rather than having to plug in a cable, but this is not supplied with the version that I received.Operation is simple. The channel knob has no display but a voice reads out the channel number when it's changed. There is a squelch button on the side, so you can turn off the squelch for potentially longer range use (although of course you then hear the loud background hiss/noise).We tested the range by having my son upstairs in the house (actually up in a loft room, so as high as possible), while I walked away from the house until reception became impossible. There were various houses in the way so definitely not an "open field" range test. Unfortunately in these conditions we only achieved about 320 metres - rather disappointing. Interestingly while doing the experiment we heard another user from the other side of town over 1.5 miles away so that was rather weird - reminded me of the good olden days of CB.So overall, not fully recommended based on my test - I'll try them in the more open great outdoors some time to see if I can get anywhere the "max" 2.5km range mentioned in the description.

Good budget walkie talkies
Note that while these work fine out of the box on 16 license-free channels, if you want more private comms (or full control over individual freqs/CTCSS/DCS codes etc...) you will need a USB programming cable. It works perfectly with the Baofeng UV-5R cable or derivatives, which you can buy for about a fiver here on Amazon. You can download the software in the item description, or install CHIRP, which also works with this.Beyond that, they work exactly how you'd expect. Decent, reasonably rugged construction (thick plastic) and having USB-C charging is a convenient way to keep them juiced, using a standard phone charger (though it also includes 2 cables and power plugs in the package)The manual is rather basic, with some broken English, but for casual use, it's as simple as turning them on, selecting your channel, and talking. For more advanced use, you can go as deep as you like with the software.Decent value, works well, and fast support from the rep here on Amazon too, when I needed it.
