requires the phone app to be paired and running to work, but useful nonetheless
Essentially is not much more than a glorified bluetooth microphone and speaker that connects to your phone or device. The speech recognition and translation is all being done through the app that has to be connected to the device. At first I was thinking that this seemed kind of pointless since if I have to have my phone to get it to work, why not just use my phone for translation? With that said, it is more convenient than just using the phone since the app can run in the background and you can still use the phone for other things, or have it put away altogether. Having the tactile buttons makes conversations a little feel a little more naturaland is a bit more ergonomic than a touchscreen. I actually found it useful for practicing languages by speaking a phrase in English and getting the translation, then trying to say the translated phrase back to see if I could get the English correct. It appears to have several language engines available, including their own as well as Google, and a couple of others I didn't recognize. My wife is a high school teacher in a large school district, and often gets students coming in that speak little to no English. I plan on having her test this out the coming school year to see if it helps with communication.

Great find!
This translator works great! It is very easy to install and get started. I volunteer at a Crisis Pregnancy Center and a lot of the clients are hispanic, this is coming in very handy! It is very easy for me to speak into and also for them to speak into. I am very pleased with the variety of languages and the ease of use.

A Smart Phone will do the same thing
Do you have a Smart Phone? Do you have Google Translate? Really, that's all you need. I took this to work--I am a psychiatric nurse--and used it for some patients that only speak Spanish. I didn't find any way that this surpassed Google Translate other than I don't get interrupted with incoming texts and calls. I just put the Blue Tooth on here and downloaded the languages to do online or offline (our work wifi is pretty weak). I had to speak slowly--much slower than is natural for me. But, for the price, it is a decent device. But, if you have an iPhone or similar, it is really all you need.

Expectations
It works well if it is a one on one conversation. Even then you have to go one sentence at at time.

Translator
This is a unique device. I’ve downloaded the app that goes with the device and it picks up on conversation and gives me the complete translation in the app. So now I don’t have to do all this typing like with Google translate. It is a great assistance as I manager a community that is mostly Hispanic with a few Portuguese and it helps me understand to better communicate.
