Disappointing – Lacks Depth and Practical Travel Info
I’ve relied on Lonely Planet guides for years, but this 14th edition was a real letdown. The most important reason I buy these guides is for practical travel information—how to get from place to place, transport tips, and real context for each destination. Unfortunately, this edition has trimmed that kind of detail to the bare minimum. For lesser-traveled islands, the coverage is shockingly thin—sometimes just 2-3 pages, with barely any mention of how to get there, where to stay, or what to do beyond the obvious. Even some more well-known regions are glossed over. It seems more like a travel magazine than a planning tool.I’ll be buying one of the older editions (9th or 10th), which were much more comprehensive, and I’ll supplement that with updated info online. If you're planning to go beyond Bali or Java, I’d strongly recommend skipping this edition in favor of something more complete.
