Sunburn: Shortlisted for the 2024 Book of the Year: Discover Award by the British Book Awards Paperback – September 19, 2023

I read this book over the summer and it was fantastic! I related so well with the main character and how the other characters were written were very different from each other. I enjoyed the slow plot and the vibes the book gives. Overall, a great summer read from someone who has never been seen the way Lucy sees Susannah.

You know when you start to read a book and just know it's going to be memorable? Well this one is it. The passion of a first love spills over the page and has your heart reeling to the time of your own first love. I find it hard to believe this was a debut. The touching prose and encapsulating imagery had me unwilling to put this book down. I could feel the yearning bleeding from the pages. The dedication and ultimate destruction one can have when they put too much faith into someone they idolize makes it hard to believe this is simply a coming-of-age novel. The writing will burn you and leave you out in the sun to wither away. I would read all over again.

Sunburn is a poignant coming-of-age story that resonates with anyone who has navigated the challenges of self-discovery and the courage to love authentically. Highly recommended for fans of literary fiction and LGBTQ+ narratives. Chloe is such a beautiful, poetic, and captivating writer. This story healed my heart, I never felt more seen or understood!

sunburn is such a beautiful book and I feel like I will never move on from it. I’ve never related to a piece of media so much in my whole life. if you’re thinking about buying this, do it. I don’t regret it.

Everyone raves about this book but I couldn’t get into it.

i cannot write a review that is sufficient or will come close in any way to doing this book justice, but this is the BEST book i have ever read when it comes to sapphic obsession. the prose was unbelievably beautiful, and it a perfect match of unsettling, haunting and pure joy while reading it.5/5 stars. i will read ANYTHING by this author! book arrived in perfect condition, too!

i got this book for my book club for all of us to read. we all enjoyed it, it was a good book and a fun read to go over with each other after! it was nice that parts of it was relatable & in some ways mirrored what we think in our heads, but put into words.
