Q: How do you get the lid on???

Stand it on end and start at the middle. With the lid at a 90 degree angle press against the side of the box at the connection point while pushing straight in on the outside. Then do the same thing for the top and bottom.

Q: Has anyone figured out how to make the lid line up correctly?

No. Lid warped when in sun anyways, so failed either way.

Q: Is the dark black 31 gallon box really a different color/shade of black than the black 100 gallon box? I would like to put them next to each other

Experience with this item not good. Gave it one star only. Bought for rattan pattern matching patio furniture. Suggest a different manufacturer.
