Unique!
I had not heard of plantain flour before. I was intrigued as one member of our household loves plantain chips. Other than the chips, plantain is not something that is often used in our house. It is also not something that is readily available where I live. I ordered the plantain flour with the intention of making pancakes with it. There is even a recipe for them right on the package. I did not fully use that recipe but used a combo of recipes using plantain flour that I found online. The plantain flour pancakes turned out well. It has a different taste and is a great alternative to using white flour. I look forward to incorporating this into other recipes. It comes in a resealable package which I like for easy storage and to help keep the product fresh. I ordered the plantain flour in April 2023 and the expiration date is August 2023 so there is a relatively short span to use it, but the bag is not that large so it should be no problem to finish it before then.

Nice source of potasium
I don't normally use flour products because they are basically empty carbs. I tried this because of the good bit of potassium and fiber. It's amazing that this is a drop in replacement for regular wheat flour. I'm impressed with the pancake recipe and will likely get another bag to use for more recipes. It's currently too expensive for me but if/when the price goes down I'll be adding it to my cart.

Powdery with a slight sweet smell and fiber-rich
First of all, there is just one ingredient in this product - organic plantains!! You cannot beat one-ingredient foods!This was my first time using plantain flour. I read that you can substitute it for regular flour so the uses for this would be endless. For the first time, I decided to make the Plantain Pancake recipe on the back of the package. I found the plantain flour to be very fine and soft like a powder. The smell is wonderful. As I've never smelled a real plantain, to me it had a mild banana smell. Slightly sweet and very pleasant. The plantain flour mixed up very smoothly in the pancake mix. It didn't get lumpy like my regular flour. My pancakes turned out wonderful and were delicious.I like that this plantain flour is fiber rich. Great product.

Good all-purpose flour substitute
I had never baked with plantain flour, so when I received this Organic Plantain Flour by Ancestral Organics, 17.63oz (500g) | Gluten Free All Purpose Flour Alternative, High Fiber & Vitamins, Rich in Potassium, Low Calorie, Sugar Free, Single Origen, Keto/Paleo Diets I had to do some online research. I read several recipes that stated that when substituting all-purpose flour for banana flour, you should do so at a 3:4 ratio because it is supposed to be denser. So, that’s what I did when I baked my apple cake. I think it turned out well. There was a very subtle banana flavor, but it was overpowered by the apples. I think it added depth to the taste. If the bag were larger or the price lower, I would use this flour more often.

Great Pancakes!
I followed a vegan recipe that I found online for pancakes. Basically it is exactly the same as the recipe shown on the back of the package, except egg substitute and maple syrup instead of honey. This is my first time using plantain flour, and wow, was this good! Really good! I want t try other recipes that I saw as well, like, breads, crackers and cakes using plantain flour! I did cook them a bit longer than I probably needed to, but I think the ingredients darken up more in the cooking process than does regular flour. I am on a soft food, low fiber diet right now for gut issues, and this looks like it will work in well!
