Easy way to add more SATA ports
Upgraded my motherboard, but it came with 2 fewer ports than the one I removed. Fitted this and it solved the problem with ease and has very little impact on the boot times.

Fantastic bit of kit for the price
I used this to upgrade my HP Compaq 8100 Elite SFF to enable SATA III and also let the system recognise my 4 TB Hard drives. This seemed to be limited to 2 TB when using the integrated SATA II controller. All it took was a quick install and a couple of modifications in the BIOS, and my server is now ticking along nicely. Comes with both a large and small form factor backplate and a little screwdriver. I didn't need the small driver disk, as Ubuntu 24.04 recognised it without an issue.

Works but no documentation\manual - How to disable hot-swap functionality
Works okay (Plugged into my ASUS 870x motherboard) but no documentation\manual with it should you want to configure. Does not show up as a device in Windows 10 because these chips often operate in AHCI pass-through mode. All the hard drives showed up as portable drives which is not what I wanted as they are internal drives and I do not want to accidently remove one at any time. The solution is to add a multi string registry key value called TreatAsInternalPort to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\Parameters\DeviceThen list the relevant drives attached to the controller identified by their SCSI bus numbers in the relevant SCSI port. Hope this helps someone because it took me a few hours to get there.

Fits well, runs fast
Made for an interesting little test to throw a couple of these into one PC and see how well windows would RAID across them, ran really well. Only issue we found was trying to use this as a boot source in an older PC, most likely a BIOS issue with that machine.

6 port says controller
This item doesn't work.No device connected to it is accessable. On boot up the device shows up and even lists connected devices.None of the devices are accessable via windows. Devices may even become corrupted by this card. There is a driver disk but it is unclear which of the 5 or 6 driver /programs is for this device?I have been messing about with this rubbish for a couple of weeks and as yet I can't get it to work.I simply can not recommend this thing

Useful for motherboards with only a limited number of SATA sockets built in.
Now M2 has more or less taken over from SATA drives, motherboards have fewer SATA sockets. Adding a RAID array is not always possible, so these extra slots allows for both RAID and or removable drives, when a SATA drive caddy is added to the mix.

Worked for my NAS
I love the ease of use and compatibility of this card, the only issue was that I did get a few hash mismatches after storing 15TBs of data but this could have been caused by power outages... I swapped controllers though and didn't have as many issues so I am not sure, hence the 4 stars instead of 5 stars.Overall, it does a great job!
