Headed for midge territory? Then don't leave home without it!
This is brilliant. Well tested on walking the West Highland Way in June, when midge numbers had exploded. 1. It is big enough to enable you to wear a baseball hat (and probably also a larger brimmed hat) underneath, which keeps the net away from your face when you are wearing it.2. You can easily see where you are going when it is being worn, even in darker conditions (in the late evening, for example, which is when midges come out the most). 3. It has a easy to use draw-string for the neck. Tighten it up, tuck it into your top layer and that way you will not have as many midges on you. I don't think there is anything that is 100% - inevitably there are already some midges on you when you put the net on and these will be buzzing around inside the net until you deal with them, but it at least enables you to function and not go crazy with the bites if you are outside in Scotland between May and September! 4. It doesn't seem to "melt" if you use insect repellant or get sun cream on it. 5. It has a great little stuff sack that will fasten with velcro around your belt, and so it is easily accessible when you need it.I would NOT go to Scotland without one.

Better than any skin-application repellent
My family and I have tried pretty much every insect repellent on the market. To date nothing has had the slightest impact on the voraciousness of our local midges. Even the well recommended 'Smidge' turned out to be utterly useless and a waste of money. Derbyshire midges are obviously much tougher than Scottish ones! So, in order to enjoy wild camping with the kids in summer, I resorted to buying four of these nets. Initially we felt a bit daft but, as we're wild camping and no-one else is around, who cares? At least they work and we've been able to enjoy nights out under the stars (no tent) without burying our heads in our sleeping bags or waking up plastered with bites. The kids have played care-free for hours surrounded by legions of midges but non of the little buggers (the midges, not the kids) have been able to land and feast, and the kids have remained bite-free. I recommend wearing a brimmed hat (even a BB cap) under the net to keep it off your face and tucking the hem inside your clothing for best coverage. These represent excellent value for money and will save us a fortune in ineffective repellent.

Perfect headwear for stopping the wee midgies
Living on the Isle of Skye we have midges as part of our daily life May to September. These midge nets are perfect for walking, photography, gardening etcFor the best fit wear a baseball cap or hat with a brim to keep the net in place - the net is wide enough.Tighten the drawstring and up into your shirt/jumper coat etc.The net is closely woven so midges cannot get through it, however it isn't to dark to see through.I wear mine very often in the garden and doing DIY and vision is not restricted.Handy little pouch for storing it away when not in use.We now own 6 of these and have them in the house, shed and car so if the midges are out we are prepared.

Good product
Effective against even small midges. Best worn over a small rimmed hat so as not to obstruct vision as mesh is very fine (if mesh any larger it wouldn't be effective against midges).

Netting may be too wide
After a trip to Scotland, I think the netting may be a bit too wide and small midges can get in. Other brands have a finer mesh with smaller gaps.

Not tested in the field yet.
Bought for a trip to Scotland. I have tried it over my head with no hat and it’s quite claustrophobic as it sits in contact with your face. I would suggest a small rimmed hat might correct this. If the mesh was any smaller you would not see very far in front of you to walk.
