No more cats
Quick Edit - if you look at the last 3 photos you’ll notice the wider width where the paper clip type part is, so too make the spray reach at a wider angel you need to unclip the 2 brackets and put one facing left and one facing right and that way you get a wider spraying across the garden , hope that makes sense but the last 3 photos will help 👍🏻I imagine like everyone that’s looking to purchase this has had enough of cats pooping in there garden and believe me I’ve tried everything so I gave this a go and well - IT WORKS 🙂 - after reading a few reviews i sort of new what I’d have to do straight away to make this perfect and work and work without any leaks.First thing i noticed and you’ll notice is how heavy it is as in top heavy, once you’ve put the tube and spike together the first thought was it’s like a wobbly head toy hence what you need to do to make it perfect.I cut 22” from a broom handle and decided where my best position would be and hammered it into place and far enough down just too be below the main unit so the plastic pipe and my pole could be secured together with 2 cable ties, you can see from the photos the different stages of securing the cat spray. From the reviews I’ve read the unit just wobbles with the sheer amount of water spraying around as the spike just isn’t long enough to go that deep into the soil to keep it sturdy enough. It’ll still work but I’d say secure it with a pole and cable ties and job done.Tape every thread with plumbers tape and remember to apply it clockwise, at first when i did this the main pipe going up into the head of the sprayer kept on leaking so i took it apart and the re taped the threads and it lasted a while as in hours then leaked again. So i took it apart again and thought ok maybe instead of unwrapping the tape I’d just go around it again and leave the previous tape on as I’ve read it’s usually 10 wraps around a thread and I don’t think i actually went around 10 times plus i noticed the threads on the tube are quite deep and not fine thin threads so would need more tape.At the back of my mind was don’t put too much tape on as when you screw the pipes together the thickness of tape will crack the pipe and then that’s basically game over so do the 10 wraps and then see if it leaks and when you undue the pipe what you’ll notice is the tape is pushed into the grooves quite a lot hence why you need to not unwrap the tape and just apply a bit more.So it’s secured into the ground and all threads taped up and time too see it in action and it doesn’t disappoint, the water blasted across the lawn hit the back fence and then some lol so at this point I’d say once you’ve done all of the above do this little tweak as to rain back the jet spray, there’s a dial at the top it says - MAX - MIN - you’ll see the dial it’s got notches cut into it and a the top there’s a switch, the only way i can describe it to be honest and it has an arrow so push down and you can then turn the dial and do it one notch at a time if you can as each notch will either increase or decrease the distance of the spray. There’s a little red screw to the right and hopefully you can see it from the photos and you can screw that further in or out too narrow the width of the spray but I’d just leave it as it came as once you adjust the notches of the distance the width of the spray does adjust as well so the longer you go as in distance the more of a jet stream stream you get.If you’re lucky enough too have a huge garden unlike me you can link multiple units together, if you look at the bottom of the black pipe you’ll see a blanked off connector and all you need to do is unscrew the cap and put on the relevant hose adapter and link up another unit and off you go.I’ve read people saying - it’s going off and nothing is there no cats or foxes etc , depending if you’ve placed it in an area where there’s lot of bushes trees planted areas the unit will go off because of the movement of bushes caused by wind !! It will go off with movement and it may well not be a cat it’ll probably be the bushes in the garden so maybe re position the unit away from big established bushes.Follow the guide and setup and you’ll be happy with the results as I’ve had no cats in my garden since. But and a big one at that, this is a summer cure of keeping cats away as come the winter pipes freeze and I’m not sure even with insulating the hose pipes and the unit it would freeze and in that case the unit would crack with the frozen water inside the unit. But that said I’d 100% buy this and have a summer of no cat poop and put up with a bit of frozen poop, follow the guide and you’ll fingers crossed never see a cat poop in the garden again.

It works okay so far. (Update some issues!)
Was not sure about getting this as the reviews are mixed, but so far I am happy with it. Yes the stake into the ground is plastic and a bit flimsy. But have tried ultra sonic cat scarers and the cat I am trying to stop messing in our garden just regards them as disco music and carries on. So thought I would try the water approach and so far not much sign of the cat who normally comes at night - looks like he has had a shot of water and moved on as I wanted him too.I have not had a problem with water leaks as some have; maybe some have high water pressure and need to turn tap down a bit. Also it’s worth just fitting together with only a light turn as the seals are formed with rubber rings that can be easily damaged if over tightened which will lead to leaks. And yes the instructions with it are rather poor, worth reading other reviews on setting it up; especially the orange clips which control the area of the arc, it is set to be very narrow - see the helpful review with the photo on how to move the clips. Agree with others that it does shoot the water rather high in the air, but what goes up comes down and the animal will not like that! The motion detector works - I have got wet several times when forgotten it was on!!! So all in all pleased with it at the moment as it works okay and it is quite cheap. As other have said it would not be good to leave it out in the winter as it would freeze and brake.Update - No tell tale signs of the cat, so it's doing its job! Took the extension pipe off so it is lower and more stable, still picks up movement well and water arc is good. Must remember it’s on as it’s got me several times, apparently the cat is learning to keep away quicker than I have!Further update Jan 2023 – Cat back leaving calling card so went to set this up again; had put into garage last Summer due to hose pipe ban. Did not work when I tried to put it out again. I had left batteries in it, a clear mistake as they had run out, but even with new batteries no go. There was a bit of water inside the battery compartment so I took batteries out and left unit near a radiator for a day. When reconnected it worked! However a few small leaks that I fixed with a bit of plumbers tape. So lesson is if not using take batteries out, and store in a dry warm place. It would defiantly be no good in frosts. Think will bring in every couple of months and take batteries out and leave in warm place in house to dry out.

Largely useless…
This is the second time I’ve reviewed this item, and because I had to replace the first set of units. The ground spikes are not fit for purpose and spring leaks constantly as the cheap plastic joints and connectors cannot cope with the water pressure whilst being planted in the ground. These things may work for a while, but they are essentially useless unless elevated about 2 foot off the ground and held completely rigid to a post. (And even then that only extends their life by about 6 months)This defeats the object when you’re trying to deter clever animals who regularly learn to adapt and avoid them.Of the 6 units I have bought over the years, 5 are unusable due to failed parts, and they fail very quickly! But, not quick enough to qualify for returning to Amazon, who continue to sell this rubbish despite it being marked as “frequently returned item” by the AI bot. They are made by Primrose, a well know gardening supply company. But when you try to buy spares (specifically the spikes and hose connectors) from them to avoid spending a fortune on new units, the company go quiet and ignore repeated attempts to buy said spares. This item, and Primrose… Best avoided!
