So you will not be able to play Pokemon Sun/Moon on the Nintendo DS (lite or not).If you want to play this game you'll need to get a console of the "Nintendo 3DS Family", this includes Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 2DS, New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL. If you want a cheap and durable one go to the Nintendo 2DS. If the difference of prices it's not relevant for you go to a New Nintendo 3DS ou New Nintendo 3DS XL.I also would love to play this game on my Nintendo DSi XL. The main difference between the two versions is that there is a 12-hour difference in the in-game clocks. So when it's daytime in Pokemon Sun it's night time in Pokemon Moon and vice versa. It comes down to your personal preference really.There are also few Pokemon that can only be found in Pokemon Sun, and some that can only be found in Pokemon Moon. Pokémon Sun and Moon are essentially the same game other than a few small differences which, by the way, can be bypassed by trading with other owners of the game. The main differences are; A) The title of the game which makes no difference at all other than which you like the look of more- Sun or Moon. B) The legendaries: Solgaleo and Lunala which are available in Sun and Moon respectively (you get Solgaleo in Sun and Lunala in Moon). Solgaleo is a Psychic and Steel type and Lunala is a Psychic and Ghost type. Meaning that once again it is all up to looks and individual typings. C) Both games will offer four or five Pokémon that are "exclusive" to each version. As of writing this response it is not confirmed what "exclusive" Pokémon will be available in each version. However, my earlier use of "exclusive" was referring to the fact that these Pokémon can easily be obtained via their counterparts by trading between one another. So there's no reason to worry about not being able to catch 'em all! I hope this answer helps you in deciding on your purchase, whether it ends up being Sun or Moon.
