This basket is intended to be held over a direct flame. In theory, if you turned the heat up high enough on your electric burner, it would work, however you would be better off to use a cast iron skillet. The unique advantage of the basket is that it allows the flame to directly touch the coffee beans, giving it a wonderful fire-roasted flavor. If you used the radiant heat of an electric burner, there would be no special flavor; therefore using a cast iron pan would be more efficient. Stir with a wooden spoon, and keep in mind that roasting coffee puts out a LOT of smoke, especially if you are going past a light roast. With the basket, I recommend roasting outdoors over an open flame.

Can you roast coffee beans in the oven

For this manual method you should keep shaking the beans over an outside heat source. I don't think an oven would work well
