Q: Can you use this with stain?

Product goes on white and drys clear. Works great. If it is already stained ut should look the same once it dries.

Q: Do you have to paint over this? I have a bookcase that got sprayed by a cat and would like to keep the original color and just seal in the smell.

No, this product dries clear, only looks white while it’s wet. It does a fantastic job of sealing in odors.

Don't use vinegar on finished or raw Wood, it doesn't work and will stain the wood. We bought a rehab house with disgustingly huge, smelly urine stains all over all of the carpeted floors. The subfloors were worse. To make sure it worked we used three coats before covering with Luann then high end vinyl planks. We learned that two coats on plywood subfloors work great. The downside is that it is lumpy which doesn't matter under carpeting. The important thing is that it does seal the odor. We didn't tint so I can't vouch for stain coverage.
