What's the diameter of the rivets?

These include both 3.4 and 4mm diameter rivets

Are they pure copper?

I have not done a metallurgical assay of the rivets so cannot attest that they are pure copper. Based on malleability they appear to be primarily copper.

How do you get the washers hammered on? Do I use the holes on the side of the tool?

That is the purpose of the Holes. You can use a small diameter pipe 3/16 x 2" which works well also. I find the pipe easier to handle
