Maybe Just a Dud
I have had several of these. I usually replace them when they get too gunky. This one didn't even last a month before the mesh pulled away from the frame rendering it useless. Disappointed in the quality. Hope it was just a dud rather than declining quality.Update:I ordered another one hoping that I previously received a dud. No such luck. This one was mangled mess too. Already pulled away from the frame in places. I did discover that both scoops were bent and crushed from shipping. They were put in padded envelopes and shipped. Absolutely no protection from crushing whatsoever. I was desperate so my husband did the best he could to hammer in the mesh at the top of the basket but couldn't do much with the back toward the handle due to the way it is fabricated with the frame. So I am very careful about not loading too much in the basket or else this one will give out in the back by the handle. Using this until I can replace with something sturdier. Ugh, $30 for two scoops wasted. Amazon...please ship these in a box, not a padded envelope!!!

Sifted, not shaken.
This scoop is far superior to those that I have found at pet stores, grocery stores and dollar stores. But as other say, you learn a new way of cleaning, which is better described as sifting, rather than scooping. Once discovered and my new sifting technique applied, there is no question that the liter box is much cleaner, and the extra time spent, is well worth it. Most of us use clumping liter which contains little (usually blue) crystals that contain odor treatments. This scoop will also remove those. This is not a favorable bit of "collateral damage". This manufacturer/designer has an "almost" with this scoop. Very happy with the finer screen to catch more that is missed, but it could use a screen that is just a tiny bit less tight to allow those deodorant crystals to stay in the liter, but still clean well. I just ordered an additional one to provide one scoop for each box in my home. Yes, I would tell another pet owner to invest in this scoop. In the end, clean is the goal and this scoop does a better job than almost any other one (best one's manufacturer went out of business), that I have had in a lifetime of cat care. The scoop is actually a 4 1/2 star product. Well worth the try.

The very best cat litter scoop made
The screen has very small openings, but if you 'sift' the litter the ammonia-scented bits will be sorted out and then the box will STINK! I guess that is why Amazon stopped listing these as cat litter scoops and moved them to reptile supplies? I'm glad I found these before that happened, and I came back to buy another. Ordinary litter scoops just get the big clumps and leave the broken bits, which the cats then walk thru. This scooper may take a little clean litter with it, but what remains is completely fresh and unused so in the long run this saves money because I don't end up dumping out the entire box as often. Plus, the cats feet stay cleaner, meaning the whole house is cleaner. Priceless!

This is PERFECT. It catches the bits that are the size ...
My cat uses Arm & Hammer Clump and Seal Lightweight Dust Free cat litter and I have always been bothered by the little bits I can't get with the 'traditional' scooper. I can't say that HE is bothered by them? But it looks 'dirty' to me. I bought a kitchen strainer but the 'holes' were too small. This is PERFECT. It catches the bits that are the size of peppercorns? I just shake it back and forth for a few seconds. I do this maybe every 2nd or 3rd day and it makes a big difference. The shape of the 'basket' is great for sifting and it's very sturdy and solid. PERFECT!

LOVE this scooper for my cat litter
LOVE this scooper for my cat litter. MEANT FOR FINE GRAIN LITTER and small reptiles… Not the stoney litter.Use as sifter action. Takes longer but more sanitary for you and your cat. Gets every little piece (small fecal particles that would fall through regular scooper.) Litter box is so much cleaner. I am so glad I found this. Heads up I use the litter that does not stick to the edge of the littler box as well. Thought I was going to have to invent something and go on shark tank. Amazon definitely is the place to find these extra ordinary products to make life easier. I also bought litter mat. Purrrrrfect and my cat is happy too. MEOW!

NOT Good For Clumping Litter
This seems like a durable strainer, and is much better made than the typical cheap plastic or metal spatula scoops. It is lightweight, and reasonably priced. I bought it to take care of the tiny chunks I occasionally find in the litter box, broken off bits from larger clumps. I asked the question if it was appropriate for EverClean clumping litter, got a mixed bag of answers, and ordered it. The real answer is "Yes and No."The scoop does pick up the small broken clump pieces, but unfortunately it also retains the tiny bead-shaped odor-control crystals contained in all clumping litters. (I use the unscented EverClean, and tried 2 other brands, but apparently all clumping litters have this type of beads.) So when I use it, I strain out the tiny broken clump bits AND some odor-control crystals (see photo). If only this scoop's holes were a tiny bit larger, it would work well. It also takes a LONG time to sift each small scoopful, as the litter goes through this strainer quite slowly, and a huge amount of shaking is required. It's a reasonably well-made tool (thus the 3 stars), but I am thinking of re-allocating it to the kitchen (after a thorough cleaning!) where it may come in more handy for straining things like tiny pasta.I purchased this scoop in combination with this one: Duranimals DuraScoop Cat Litter Scoop (colors may vary) which is reviewed separately.

Made for the terrarium, but perfect for the coop!
Exo Terra Stainless Steel Scooper Although intended for use in small reptile terrariums, I've found this to be the perfect scoop to use in my chicken coop. I have a "poop board" filled with sweet PDZ under the roosts to contain most of the chickens' droppings. I've purchased other scoops that were meant to be used in cat litter boxes, but I found that they didn't get all the poop; the spaces were too wide to catch the smaller pieces of waste. The mesh on the Exo Terra is small enough to get all the poop, but large enough to allow the PDZ to flow through with a simple shake of the wrist.
