Q: Has anyone tried to use Polaroid brand Zink paper? It's the same size and about 2/3 the price

Each brand has a blue paper with a bar code that has to load on the bottom of your stack of photo paper. If you use Polaroid paper it will give you an error message. That being said, I bought Polaroid paper before I knew this and I just swapped out the barcode paper for the one that came in the HP pack included with the printer and it worked fine.

Q: Do you need to purchase ink cartridges separately?

nope, everything is in the specially coated paper, and it comes with the paper. You'll need more of that but doesn't take any Ink

Q: instead of social media... can it access your phone's gallery and print out pictures you already captured?

No. It can only print pictures that are liked by your friends on Facebook. If nobody hits "like" on that particular photo, it will be grayed out.
