Can one child use it alone?

Yes! I have three boys but my middle loves playing on it solo. Trying to tip it over. Trying to go over the top. Walking around the side as fast as he can.

Will this be ok to use in the snow?

Our first one lasted less than a week in the snow. It was great till then, and then the center chamber simply popped, with our son (1/2 the max weight) sitting on top of it. So no, I would recommend not in the snow.
