IT WORKS! IT WORKS! IT WORKS!
Update on update: I took my car in for its first oil change (I don’t drive much). I did call the place first and they said I would have to sign all kinds of forms blah blah blah. They had never seen one, I bought and brought with the removal tool. They were amazed and had no problems removing it or putting it back (no forms to sign either). The mechanic did say the threads inside of the pan weren’t damaged too bad, and said something about maybe being able to retap(?) it. NO WAY! I think some of the reviews where people are not satisfied are due to pans that may be already over-damaged from the retap or heliocoil thingee. The mechanic, and some of the comments here, also feel unsure about a magnet and long term use. Here is my answer to that: 1. The magnet isn’t going anywhere. If you hit the oil pan hard enough to remove this magnet, you will need a new oil pan anyway 2. Over a long period of time the rubber stopper MIGHT deteriorate a bit, but I would rather pay another $20 than $450 3. If you buy a new oil pan, all it takes is another over torquing and back to $450 square one. You cannot “over torque” a magnet. UPDATE: So I It’s been about 2 months and 2,000 miles since I have used the plug. The oil was down less than a 1/2 quart, which I think is considered normal. I haven’t seen any new oil spots in my driveway. I read the other reviews and as long as their advice and tips are followed, the product will work. I also learned that the oil pan plugs Toyota or Lexus vehicles use are especially strong and DO NOT WEAR OUT, unless they are stripped due to the incompetence of idiots. Also, don’t bother calling in complaints to the oil change shops. They will not accept blame. The woman who called me back “chuckled” to me when I explained what happened. When I told her to chuckle her heart out because I will (and did) write a complaint on every review board I could possibly find, she no longer chuckled. She also informed me (chuckling) that the blue gunk is the shop’s way of knowing if the oil was changed by them and/or the plug tampered with. Now it was my turn to chuckle back and say a few choice words. The gunk was a sealant to hide the stripping. Period. Please read this, especially women! Day before Thanksgiving, mile long to do list, oil change #1 on list. After an hour and a half, I was told that I needed a new drain pan because the bolt is stripped, it's from wear and tear, this would be $450 plus the $50 (that was $35 online...) oil change. So they stranded me. Literally stranded me, car drained of oil, because I knew something wasn't right and refused their service quote. Sooo thanks to my "gecko" insurance company's roadside service, I opted for the car to be towed to my home. Did my research and learned this is a common scam/poor mechanic/"accident". I'm sure they saw $$$$$ because they assumed woman, blonde, must be dumb. So wrong! I come from a family that loved working on cars and I have 2 master's degrees (just a quick don't judge a book by its cover example). I have a 2009 Camry with 76,000 miles. I called Toyota, since they happened to be the last ones to do an oil change, 1 of the 2 places that have ever done the maybe 12? total oil changes since I bought the car. They promised blah blah blah, there were other solutions, only to tell me after 3 1/2 hours that they wouldn't touch it unless I bought the new oil pan, also $450. Hmmmmmm...Now, in the meantime, my neighbor was able to use some teflon tape to get the bolt in as a temporary fix, and it worked, but it was dripping a little oil. While researching ways to get this fixed for less than $450-500 (I am a single mom, I work very hard for my money), I came across Eco-plug. For $20, it seemed to good to be true, and a couple of mechanics who are friends of friends said better to just get the pan replaced. But, I figured for $24, I paid to have it shipped asap, the worst thing that happens is I'm stuck getting a new oil pan and out an extra $24. I called Eco-plug because my car wasn't in the cross reference chart and the guy told me exactly what type to get and reassured me, Jersey-style, that it does work, and when it does, please write a review. IT DOES!!!! My friend and her boyfriend came over to help and he said he only had to put a little pressure to start putting the plug in and then it just flew up and CLUNG to the pan. He said there is no moving that thing! Best of all, I took it for a test drive and not a trace of oil around it when I got back. I am hoping it truly is a permanent fix, it does seem like one. So I learned a couple of lessons: NEVER let anyone change the oil, that includes dealerships, unless you stand right there and watch them use hand tools (found traces of some sort of blue glue gunk from where someone tried to rig it), sometimes simple really is the solution ($24 vs $450??!!!), and go with your gut feeling, don't let car repair shops, whether dealerships or the quick oil change places, intimidate you. I don't know if there is a way to write another review later on to follow up, but I will try. For now, I can actually sleep tonight. THANK YOU, ECO-PLUG!!!! I hope this saves someone else $430! Quick P.S. to whoever I talked to at Eco-plug, yes, the test drive was to McDonald's.

It works!!!
This plug is fantastic!!! I performed an oil change on my 2001 Mitsubishi that has never had an oil leak. When I went to tighten the oil drain plug, I could tell that the threads were not going to hold. I then had an oil leak at the drain plug. I have been a mechanic for 20 years and I have done hundreds of oil changes, and I have not had a drain plug where the threads became damaged just from use. I have fixed many oil pans where someone has cross threaded the threads in the pan or someone has over tightened the drain plug and pulled the threads out. So with my Mitsubishi, I tried a different gasket, that did not work. I tried another drain plug, that did not work. I knew my options: try and use an oversized self tapping drain plug (easiest option), try to helicoil, or replace the oil pan. I didn’t really want to do any of those, so I started looking on the internet and found the Eco Plug. I was very suspicious at first, but after watching the video, I thought I would give it a try. What else did I have to lose. I ordered the Eco Plug and I the meantime I drove the Mitsubishi (leaving oil puddles wherever I parked). I got the plug 5 days later and was very eager to see if this thing would stop my oil leak. I did not follow the directions exactly because I did not drain my oil pan. I didn’t want to lose the new oil I had put in when I did the oil change. I removed the original drain plug while holding my finger on the hole so that I would not lose oil. I then inserted the Eco Plug (with oil running out), and turned it clockwise while slightly pushing. Once the rubber fins were centered the magnet pulled the plug right to the pan. I wiped all the excess oil and cleaned with brake cleaner. I then ran the vehicle for 10 minutes: no oil leak!! It has been almost two weeks now and still no oil leak!!! This car is my daily driver, so it gets plenty of road time. This plug is AWESOME!!! If you have not oversized you drain plug hole, then get this plug, it will work. I recommend this plug to anyone who has a steel oil pan with a leak at the drain plug.

Did not work for my 2006 Toyota Tundra
I wanted it to work badly. I have a 2006 Toyota Tundra that I recently purchased and while changing the oil, I noted that the steel oil pan threads were stripped and if you are reading this, you know that it is not a good feeling when the bolt is oversized and difficult to remove. Thank you to the jerk that sold me the truck with this small issue. After inspection, I noted that it is impossible to replace the pan without taking major components off the vehicle. I do not have a lift, so this is not an option.I searched Amazon and YouTube for a solution and came across the Eco-Plug. It arrived in the traditional Amazon quick manner.Super easy to install. The magnet was stronger than I expected and I was pretty confident that it would work. Alas, it did not. I returned to the truck 5 minutes after installing the plug and oil was dripping from the pan around the device. I removed the plug, drained the oil and waited. The next day I inspected the pan closely and verified that the pan was smooth and there was no debris around the opening. I replaced the plug and poured one quart of oil into the truck. Nope, still leaked.I will be returning the item soon.Huge disappointment given the hype!

Worth it!
Zero leaks, works great!

works for a couple oil changes
works great but gave three stars because of durability issues, it leaks after two oil changes. had to order a new one and change oil once again because of leakage.

Worked on my flat-surfaced steel pan
Drip-free for me because I cleaned the oil pan surface, wire-brushed it and made sure it was flat before installing the magnetic plug. It protruded 2mm below the pan, so I made a "skid plate" so it wouldn't get pulled off if the pan bottomed out on the ground.
