Q: I always end up having problems with the cleaning station. Anyone have any issues with this model?

Yes, the pump quit after 20 months. I am using the stand to charge and dry the shaver after manual cleaning. You can get the station only as a repair part, but it costs $100 plus shipping. I have had two of the previous types fail for various reasons. The shavers are very reliable. It's too bad that they cant make an automatic cleaning base that will last.

Q: Is this a super close shave? Because I do not like shavers that are not super close shaves.

Just got this a couple of days ago and have noticed after going through several passes, it does provider a VERY close shave. The first day I got it and started to get the learning curve, I only went through 1x-2x passes. Today I just did it for about 10-15 mins and it's as close to the skin as I got with a normal razor. Battery life is still 90% as well. Highly recommend this thing.

Q: In terms of closeness, how does this compare to your typical Gillette fusion blades? Does it approach closeness?

Closer than any gillete or disposable type blades. I've been using foil type electrics for 30 years and can tell you without a doubt, this razor will surprise you with how close the shave is. It takes a little time to learn how to use an electric, but you'll notice the difference right away. Most people who have never used an electric are amazed at how smooth the shave is compared to blade shaving. IMHO Panasonic has been making a solid product since they entered the market, this one is amazing.

Q: Between the Braun Series 7 or 9 and the Panasonic Arc 5, which is more comfortable?

In a nutshell, Ovidiu Nicolae says that while the Braun 9 is less irritating, the Panasonic Arc 5 wins in closeness. To upgrade your Arc 5 foil to the latest generation, you can look for "Panasonic Replacement Blade Set for 5-blade ES9036 (Compatible ES9034 ES9032)" The next-gen foil is supposed to lower the irritation.
