So Far, So Good
I have only had this up and running for a little over a week, but it's been really cold, so it's been a great test of what it can do.It's replacing a 60,000 BTU vented heat stove that's around 65 years old. When I saw the square footage that that is listed as it's effective limit, I was a little skeptical about its ability to heat my whole house where temps often fall below zero for about three months each winter.I got the optional blower, but it's not strong enough to distribute the heat very far. It's still worthwhile, because it blows the rising column of heat far enough to place a more powerful fan just above the heater without it getting hot. That fan, aimed upwards at about 30°, redirects the rising heat wherever it's pointed, and even keeps adjoining rooms comfortable. It's gotten down to 0 and below the last two nights, and the heater hasn't been set above 2 either night. It was even a little warmer than I wanted when set at 2, so last night was about 1 1/2.One difference from the old heater that takes some getting used to is the way it regulates the heat output. The old units on/off cycles were much longer. The flame would stay on for several minutes (depending on where the thermostat was set), and then they'd go off for a while. This unit can cycle on and off a couple times in about a minute. Not that it's bad, just different; sort of like it micromanages the output. After such a short while, I obviously can't rate it durability, but it seems sturdy enough. The little assembly involved in attaching the feet was quick and easy, but I let a pro hook it up. He had to tie into the existing line and run an extension about 7 feet. Mainly, he had the stuff and experience to check for any leaks properly. I probably could have done it all pretty easily, but I feel better knowing it's all done properly by a guy I have known for a long time.If you're debating getting a primary heater and wonder if this will be enough, it will easily handle more than the 1,000 square feet listed.

Great job, Mr. Heater!
The focus of this review is on the high quality of Mr. Heater. A comment is shared at the end regarding the unsafe lack of suitable packaging, which is a critical concern for potential Amazon consumers of this and other such products. The heater is awesome. It produces heat for about 8,000-10,000 CUBIC feet. The controls work perfectly. The safety features are comforting. The cabinet is solid and the safety cover is well-designed and firmly integrated into the heater. The appearance says “I am efficient” and as the unit is compact, it takes up the space of an average living room chair on the floor or can be mounted on a wall safely. I’d argue having the unit on the floor makes more sense if you have the choice. It’s not a warm and cozy look like some MUCH more expensive units with their facades and fancies, but sprawling on the floor in front of this heater is still a great place for a winter’s nap!I think the feet on this heater are especially well-designed. Reflecting those of an animal’s cloven hooves, Mr. Heater will stand firmly and yet not obtrusively. They comport well with the design motif of the appliance and speak well of the design approach taken by the manufacturer.I believe that a better choice of color for the screws in the frame of the unit would be to match the cream vanilla color, but silver screws were used. This truly is the only thing about the heater with which I find fault.Unfortunately, I recommend that you DO NOT order such items from Amazon because they insist on shipping them in retail packaging and you will likely end up with a damaged unit as we did. Twice.I love just about everything else about Amazon, but this practice poses a safety hazard with such products and is super-frustrating in general.

Don't listen to the critics! Just don't use the Elbow and buy the Kit
1. Mr. Heater Corporation F299730,30,000 BTU Vent Free Blue Flame Propane Heater, MHVFB30LPT2. Camco Low Pressure Gas Regulator with 6' Hose 7000 BTUs/Hr Simple and Quick Install - Use with Low Pressure Gas Fired Heaters (57703)3. Mr. Heater One-Stop Universal Gas-Appliance Hook-Up Kit4. Order a 1/2 female to 3/8 male flare fitting if you plan to use the cutoff valve in the kit.Okay, I just purchased this heater and I can't be more pleased with my decision. I read the reviews and many of the negative things you're reading is because people purchased without reading first. Just like a previous reviewer stated about the elbow that comes with the heater -- DON'T USE IT PERIOD!!! DON'T ATTEMPT IT AT ALL! Just buy the Mr. Heater One-Stop Universal Gas-Appliance Hook-Up Kit -- Now with this I used everything but one 1/2 male pipe to 1/2 female flare because it wouldn't fit onto the Camco low pressure gas regulator I purchased because its 3/8 (So you need to go to home depot and buy a 1/2 female pipe to 3/8 male flare and probably more plumbers tape because its not enough in the kit. That's all you need to get this working.Absolutely, no need to wait months for parts that is just ridiculous!!!! Home depot has everything you need or your nearest plumbing supply store to get this connected. I don't believe anyone would buy this product then wait months for parts to arrive. Just doesn't make sense when you can get them locally. Now to address the cutting off part when operating this is normal -- and the heater with cut on/off while operating which is awesome because you don't have to continue to adjust the setting. It goes from blue flame to pilot then back on in intervals, so this is what people is referring to then they said it comes with a thermostat. Nothing you will see on the product it just does it automatically and is a nice feature that will save on propane.Next, I seen people complain about the smell of that comes with this heater, but I can truly say I don't smell any odor and I haven't had to open any windows yet. I do have a Kidde fire alarm with a CO2 detector this sits in the same room about 5 feet away and it hasn't triggered. It doesn't make you sick and dizzy these comments are misleading.Blower fan: The fan isn't needed at all so don't waste your money buying it.I would address more but just listen to what people already told others and this product will work fine and you won't be disappointed. Don't reinvent the wheel if someone already tried the elbow and it failed. Don't continue to use it because you think you have the magic touch.
