Q: How can I switch between modes of this torch?

To switch between modes you tap or press the tail button to switch between High and low and strobe.

Q: When you turn the torch off, then back on again, does it either turn back on at full brightness, or back in the last mode used, or next mode?

When I turn it back on it is the same level of brightness as before I switched it off.

Q: mines does not seem to zoom - how do you get it to zoom in or out?

Twist the front of touch where the lens is.. it pulls out and back. For zoom to Normal

Q: Can I use rechargeable batteries? If so which ones please?

yes you can. personally i use Varta batteries as they are long life and recharge fast
