The Thermometer reads in either oF or oC. The reading can be toggled between the two depending on what make you comfortable

How often does it need to be calibrated?

You should not need to re-calibrate it but if you suspect it to be inaccurate, there is a calibration feature.

Is this ambidextrous?

IF the probe is kept at a 90 o angle, No; because the digital reading is only on one side. If the probe is at a 180 o angle, yes; because you an rotate it. Also if you simply stick the probe in with the display facing you, then rotate with your hand removed.
