These are alwayz great to have in your arsenal. Especially, if you're an independent film maker, regardless of the position you're working in. I've purchased a few of these and am now working on personalizing this one. With more knowledge working in camera I've learned what's "needed" for a slate board.I gave "Sturdiness" 4 stars because the screws are meh. They're solid, but after so many uses the screws do end up loosening. This is pretty frustrating and I learned the hard way to ensure they're constantly screwed in. It was during one of the scenes I was 1st AC'ing for and right as I was about to slate, the top handle came off. It was then I saw the screws had fallen off and I was scrambling to find a replacement for them. And, since we were filming in a grassy field, you can guess how fun that was trying to find the screws that fell off LOL Easy fix, but it'd be better if it came this way. I replaced all 3 screws for 3 longer ones (to give me an extra 2-4 in) and replaced the back domed cap nuts with a lock washer and lock nut. So mii configuration addition was: Front side - washer/Back side - lock washer & lock nut. I've used this config on other slate boards, which is why I can say this - it works and does not loosen at all!Other than that, everything else about this board is superb!

Definitely put a drop of loctite on those bolts, your slate will look very stupid if it's in 2 pieces and you can't find that tiny little nut. Absolutely a bargain for the price

Great affordable product. Now used on 3 of my projects since buying.

The slate looks sturdy enough as long as you don't throw it on the floor between each take. Expo markers seem to leave a smudge even after cleaning with windex, but I'm partial to using camera tape marks anyway, which work fine with it.One thing I'd like though is a thumb strap on the top stick, I might try to glue one on (the wood feels like MDF, so, not sure a screw would hold up). Regardless, it's cheap enough to buy another one if I f-up.

I wanted something movie related for my man cave and this fits the bill perfectly. Good product, nice materials and construction
