Important to use on pre 2003 models.
2001 Tahoe. I upgraded to later pcv valve believing it better, new and improved, etc.Although I did not have such issues, notices of high oil consumption and claims this assisted that.No.While I upgraded valve cover galley baffle with holes to allow drainage to assist against pcv clogging, better flow and drainage, beginning around 2004 or so they updated the entire valve cover incorporating a simple restrictive pcv design.....vis a vis, a simple pass through hole, no check valve as on earlier 2000s models. These earlier check valve types make a difference.Car runs better. That later pinhole type easily clogged. You do not want to blow out your gaskets due to clogged pcv.Get this check valve type for early models of this great LS series from early 2000s

OEM Part But Read the GM TSB.
It's interesting that the Amazon description says that this is an aftermarket part. Clearly, it's OEM, ACDelco. This is the Pro model of PCV part number 12572717, which is discontinued and can't be found anywhere. This is the ball style valve which, if you have high oil consumption, may not be appropriate for your vehicle. I bought this as I recently noticed an oil film on my '02 Avalanche throttle body and valve covers did a search to see why.My 5.3 has, since new, continuously used oil. Always serviced at a GM dealership. Always told that my oil usage was "normal" for this engine. My recent search revealed that on 7/19/02, GM released TSB 01-06-01-029B which addresses high oil consumption for various '99 - '02 GM vehicles with 4.8 - 5.3 - 6.0 engines. I wish that I had been told this. The TSB calls for a fixed PCV valve (non-rattle) to correct this problem. That ACDelco part #CV4000C is also discontinued. If your vehicle needs the fixed valve PCV, call your local GM dealership parts department and have them do a dealer inventory search for either 12572717 or CV4000C. I was able to find two of the discontinued correct PCV valves at one small dealership. Interestingly, this GM dealer had the part listed under the original, discontinued part number, but my local GM dealer did a search on part CV4000C. If you try this, have them do a search both ways. This Pro PCV valve from Amazon would fit and work in my 5.3 but I'm not installing it. If you're not loosing oil, and your vehicle isn't listed in the TSB, this PCV valve should work fine. While your at it, consider replacing both PCV hoses as well. The hose available here at Amazon, while it's OEM ACDelco and fits perfectly, attaches to the passenger side of the manifold and is not the fat PCV hose that attaches to the PCV valve itself. Happy hunting!Changing the PCV valve should be a regular part of vehicle maintenance that, if ignored (like I did), can lead to oil leaks, poor engine performance, lower gas mileage and more. Your vehicle and wallet will thank you.
