Very impressed with this kit.
The trick to assembling this kit is to take your time! The instructions are actually very well illustrated. I purchased a tiny file set from Harbor Freight and some 340 grit sandpaper from Home Depot. I carefully sanded the entire kit and filed the burrs off the parts. While building this I stained and applied two light coats of clear coat to the wood. All gears remained unfinished. I replaced the music mechanism with a different one to play Canon in D major. The ring gear on this kit did require some additional filing on the teeth so all flower pedals would close properly. Yes one piece is labeled incorrect on the wood sheet. The illustration of the gears will help you locate the correct part on the sheet. Overall I am very impressed with this kit and looking forward to building another kit.

Rainy day project
Great to give as a give to a crafty person. Definitely takes a lot of patience and time. Small fingers is a must. Great for a rainy day.

Use brain when installing
The media could not be loaded. Succeeded.<Suggestions for buyers> Listen to the instruction when it says sand and wax the parts. Try to think ahead, understand the mechanism, and test the gear movement section by section when installing, especially before finishing some steps that cannot be easily undo. This instruction style is like 85%-babysitting, friendly but not perfect. Better use your intelligence to fill the remaining 15%. No need to rush and your time spent will pay off. Polishing edges or even color painting (as I've seen in a review) would make your work even nicer.Btw, they do have some spare parts (I didn't use any tho). I saw in review that the surrounding bending pieces could be fragile. I lightly moisturized them before bending. Not sure if it helped.Expect most connection points to be pretty tight. But better not apply brute force and risk breaking it.<Suggestions for the product> Some gears require too much sand-off to finally rotate freely. And sanding them is quite annoying (so many teeth they have). The two little pieces of sand paper are totally worn out in the end. The pin controlling music on-off too is long and doesn't work well in the instructed shape. It took me a while to made it work. Terrible music rhythm lol

Beautiful but disappointing
I might have been more favorably impressed had I not just completed UGEARS' Hurdy-gurdy, but by comparison this project suffers. While it is very beautiful, the amount of sheer complexity doesn't quite seem worth the bother. The laser cutting isn't so clean, nor the plywood itself as high quality as the UGEARS project led me to expect. I would have liked to have less thickness, but given the amount of separation that occurred around piece edges, it's probably just as well that the plywood *isn't* thinner. It would also be nice to have extras of some of the smaller attachment pieces, as I feel that I spent too much time searching on the floor for teeny tiny bits that (hello 21, 20, and 4) are necessary, and irreplaceable. The instructions are, in many places, NOT clear, and the forced perspective used in some of the drawings make it less, rather than more, clear which end of a piece is which. I wanted to be favorably impressed with this beautiful box, but instead I find myself frustrated and disappointed. If you're looking for a wooden puzzle to do, skip Wood Tricks and go with UGEARS instead.

Beautiful
My husband put this together for our daughter and it is beautiful. She is 6 and can work the locks herself and the music is wonderful. One of the peices was cut incorrectly (it happens) but it is really easy to order new boards (all peices are cut on 4/5 boards) and if it was due to something cut incorrectly the spare boards are free (although if you break a peice while assembling you would need to pay for a new one). We also bought one of the marble runs, which is awesome and now my husband can't wait to do another.

Should include spare pieces
The wax they give you to (wax the gears) is pointless you make more of a mess on your table than what stays in the gear. Half the pieces en up cracking because they’re not fully cut out so you try and make it work… then when you get most of it together and it says check they jump and stick them you hear a snap and you want to throw it against a wall because you just spent 4 1/2 hrs putting something together for it not to hold up. I bought two of the violins and only one came with all the parts and it still doesn’t play smooth you gotta hold your finger on the rear gear…I’ll stick to metal pieces rather than wood…was a good run but not worth the hassle or headache
