Great for homemade vinegar, not kombucha
We use this to make vinegar. It works well, its a great size for small batches of vinegar. It is a gallon but the mixture will bubble a lot so you don't want this if you're making a gallon of something, so keep that in mind. The anaerobic process is what you can do with this topper, which is for vinegar. If you're making kombucha, that is an aerobic process (until the carbonation, when you seal it) so you could still in theory use the jar for your ferment and a cheesecloth top.

Great for wine
This is a useful, open mouth jar with a lid set up for adding an airlock. The one suggestion I would give to someone trying to put the grommet in the lid, is to do so from the inside of the lid, so the seal gets captured cleanly by the grommet and doesn't get bunched up or twisted. You want the foam seal to be smooth and under the grommet, so the container is airtight. I got mine wet with sanitizing solution and it popped right in.I use this jar for wine, when I want to add raisins or fruit to the mix. The wide mouth makes it easy for both adding things and cleaning. It also makes it easy to stir gently if I add yeast nutrient at stages during fermentation.Edit: I took a star away, because the airlock is a type i do not like. It's cap allows tiny fruit flies to enter the airlock, whereas the red capped airlocks do not. I have to keep changing the airlock, to keep it clean.

Fermentation at it's finest
Use to make mead in college with a similar setup. It's been thirteen years, but this kit made setup easy and quick. It even has the same style of air gap for the lid. Very nice.

Great product and more quality than expected
I've bought two of these now to take up mead making at home, and I'm debating picking up a few more so I can have more batches going at once. Both have come in great shape and have done well for me. Top notch quality for a price that doesnt break the bank.

Junk - stick with name brand glass!
I purchased this for the purpose of making sauerkraut. I made a batch and set it in my pantry to ferment for a couple of weeks. When I checked the next day there was no liquid in the jar. This perplexed me until I swiped me hand across the shelf the jar was on and found it soaked. The liquid had all leaked out through a tiny crack and ruined the batch of kraut, an entire 100-pack of parchment paper and a waffle iron that was on the shelf underneath (not to mention getting on a camera bag, various perishables and the carpet). There was also collateral damage from me punching out the light in the pantry after making this discovery but that's on me.In short, this product has poor manufacturing and quality checks--do not buy this. I'm out at least $75 from the damage this PoS cheap-o jar caused.I am already paying the price for buying junk and expecting great results, but hopefully I can save you from making the same mistake. It's like the old adage goes: buy once, cry once.
