Great For Converting An Office Chair Into a Counter Height Stool. Will Make The Chair Taller.
I wanted to turn a really nice office chair into a counter stool for my mother. I realized that I needed to convert the wheels to stationary chair guides, and to buy a new gas cylinder that increased the max height of the chair.I actually did some measurements prior to purchasing this. Most office chairs have a maximum height of around 21-22 inches. My chair had a max height of 23.5 inches, but I still needed higher. And I later learned that I would need to account for the "plushiness" of the cushion, compared to a firmer bar stool type chair, as the cushion would sink in an inch after you were sitting in it.I was weary about how long these things last, so I tried to buy the exact size where the minimum setting was high enough to not require it to be lifted at all. So I originally bought the 8 inch lift gas cylinder. At it's minimum height, this made the chair like 27 inches high, which was too high for my needs.I ended up exchanging the 8 inch one for this 4 inch gas lift that was slightly too short, but only required a tiny bit of lift. And for the price these cost, I'm no longer worried about them not lasting for years. I can just buy another one.Installation was easy, because it was a relatively new chair. I recommend you take the wheel base off first. So place your chair probably head down, ideally on some carpet, fully exposing all wheels in the air. Then get a rubber mallet and hit against the gas lift bottom while pulling on the wheel base, and eventually the base will come off. Then get a pipe wrench or some kind of wrench with a wide enough opening, and turn it the lift cylinder to the left. Mine came off relatively easily. The whole process probably took less than 5 minutes which surprised me cuz some people say it takes like an hour of banging. My original chair piston was not broken, so I wanted to preserve it the best I could. Some say you can protect it from scratches if you put like a rag in between, but in my opinion, that's not feasible because it'll just cause the wrench to spin. I removed the old piston the best I could, but there are pipe wrench marks on it. I wanted to keep it because not only is it still good, but if I ever wanted to turn it back into a regular chair I could.Only had it about a couple of weeks, but so far so good. You're apparently suppose to go up and down on the cylinder every week or so to keep the piston lubed, but I've never done that, and most people probably don't once they find the ideal height. But that's what you're suppose to do for maintenance.I'll reiterate that I do believe this may make your chair taller than it was before on it's lowest setting, and has the range to make it much taller (drafting chair height) if desired. I've never had an issue with these before, because I always sit at the lowest setting which is around 17 inches on most chairs.

Fits Perfectly
I ordered this part to fix a sinking office chair that I have loved for years. It fit perfectly and did the job. I have ordered a second unit to fix another chair. One recommendation- I had some troubling separating the old cylinder from the base of my chair. Took the base and hung it over my garbage bin, took a deep-well socket and put it inside the base of the cylinder - so I could exert pressure evenly on all sides. gave it a good whack and it popped out.

Needed spacer
The height and cylinder power were on point. My chair however might be older and needed a spacer put in to activate the cylinder. My prior cylinder had a spacer with a screw to hold it in place. I added it to this new assembly and it worked great. Just extra steps and figuring out what needed to happen.

A nice plug-and-play replacement and super-sized upgrade!
I saved at least 100 bucks replacing my 3-year-old gaming chair with this part. The old gas cylinder was giving out and making me sink to the floor, so I found this product and learned how to replace it myself. The one I chose wasn't the same piston-stroke length as the original, but I intentionally went with the longer one assuming I'd get more chair height (which is what I wanted). Installation-wise wasn't too bad; I had to shock the legs and the seat mount out of the piston assembly to remove, and it was a matter of pressing the new piston back to re-assemble. As someone who's 6' 2" with long legs, I now float a bit mid-air with the piston fully extended. Haven't had any problems and would recommend this modular upgrade for the generic gaming chairs!

Perfect fit for barstool
Good fit for my barstools which were suppose to have a longer Piston/shock so bar stool could reach 30inches. This longer one fit perfect & did the job.

Barely functional
I used this to replace my gas cylinder in my chair (which was quite difficult, but I wouldn't say that was the fault of this product so much as just that it's hard to get cylinders in and out of chairs). This cylinder doesn't work. It keeps raising the chair when I'm not sitting in it, then sinks to the bottom setting when I do sit in it. No matter what I do, I can't get it to stay down when I'm not sitting in it, and I can't get it to stay up when I am sitting in it.For the record, this listing says it's rated for 450lbs, and I weigh less than half that, so this isn't a case of me misreading the product's capabilities. Amazon requires you return the package to get a replacement or a refund, and since I'm lacking in transportation at the moment, I'm not in a position where I can pack this thing up and send it back, nor am I eager to get another one when this first one failed so badly and was so difficult to install.Do yourself a favor: DO NOT get this cylinder.

Just what I needed
I used this to make my office chair tall enough to use at a desk I made between two cabinets. The countertop is higher than traditional desks and my chair was not all enough for me to comfortably use my computer. It was easy to install.

Bring any chair back to life!
I found an old chair that would not stay up. I watched a youtube video and after getting a heavy hammer, knocked the old one out and putting the new one back in was a cinch! Its not impossible and the chair has been brought back to life.

works great!!!
Bought this to replace a gas shock in my new chair I bought. Only had the chair for less than a year and bang the shock goes on it. This one looks to be more heavy duty. I’ll give it a try and see. So far so good. Installing was easy. Just make sure you look on YouTube for pointers as it can be stubborn to remove the old shock.

Straight Forward with the right tools
When I read the reviews of a number of customers about how difficult it could be to remove their faulty chair cylinder, I invested in an office chair cylinder removal tool as a long term investment. Once I removed the old two section cylinder, the new Master Mart office chair gas cylinder fit in like a glove.
