Rust is everywhere
First: I bought this Ospho with my own money and I am not being tortured to write this.As you know painting over sanded rust doesn't work for very long. I've used various rust "converters", and I like Ospho best so far. Just scrape off loose rust first. Try a "flap disk" on really thick rust. Then slop on the Ospho and leave it overnight. I keep a supply of cut-off plastic bottle bottoms for this step and painting in general, so I don't contaminate the supply bottle. If it doesn't look rust free, I do it a second treatment. Usually the first treatment is fine. Either way, it goes really fast. I use cheap "chip" brushes, work outside because it's going to drip. Don't get it on your clothes because it's an acid. I like using a brush because it mechanically pushes whatever I am using into the surface better than spraying or rolling. I spray off the surface with a hose, let that dry and then prime and paint.I work on a lot of different things and use a lot of different products, and find it useful to read reviews before I try something new. I'm mystified by the usually small number of one star complainers and wonder if they read the directions, actually plugged the device in, put good gas in it, shook the container first, stirred, etc. You don't have to shake, stir or pull start Ospho. I have never had any issues with Ospho containers. I hope you don't either. This is good stuff, easy to use. It works.

This Stuff Rocks!
OSPHO works great and is made in USA. I have been using it on tools, drill bits, lawnmowers, etc., for years and recently bought a gallon to eliminate the severe rust under my car (c'mon Toyota!). To clarify, this isn't a rust encapsulating paint, it's a rust eating/neutralizing acid type treatment. It eliminates rust (turns black) so it can be repainted. There are a few reviews that said it didn't work completely - it actually works great, but with a few caveats:- On deep or thick (layered) rust you should wire brush it first to expose the bottom layer. If you don't, there may still be rust under the top layers. Close pressure washing works also.- Any oil or coating on the surface can prevent this from getting to the rust. When necessary, I use alcohol or dawn detergent to clean the surface. With any detergent you must rinse thoroughly, as some leave a water spot reducing film.- On heavy rust it's good to wire brush after treatment to make certain you got it all. A few times after treatments I wire brushed and rust dust appeared. A second treatment usually gets the rest in heavy rust applications. It was great to find this in gallons at a very competitive price!
