Does the job. But the XXS version really is bare bones.
Anyone who needs to produce a small quantity of ID badges, really has very limited choice in card software, cardPresso XXS Edition being the least expensive. It has both landscape and portrait card templates, for CR79, CR80, CR90 and CR100 card stock. The license came in the form of a USB dongle, which I personally prefer, in case you have to reset your computer. The software is very easy to get the hang of. The XXS version really is bare bones though, bordering on just mean. No QR codes, no face crop, not even auto-print. If it were a meal, it would be a Pot Noodle and cardPresso would even take the flavour sachet out and make you pay for it separately. It does get the job done, and does let you create and link to the most common access control databases. The graphical interface is basic, but looks neat, tidy and quite professional. But what really lets the software down are the pre-loaded card background graphics, they are AWFUL! They look like someone just randomly searched the internet, grabbed a weird bunch of pictures, then threw them into folders and gave them random names. For example, there is an 'Ice Cream' folder?? It really lets cardPresso down. There is only one sensible, card background, but it's landscape, where my ID cards are all portrait. The software would be a thousand times better, if it contained a good selection of professional, ID card-specific background images. Images, that have specific areas for staff head and shoulder photographs, plus their name and Department, not simply a picture of a circus clown holding a balloon?? The other annoying 'feature' of cardPresso XXS, is that it really feels like cardPresso don't want you to know about their products or how much they cost. There is a link within the software to supposedly upgrade your license. You can click it till you wear a hole in your keyboard, but it does nothing! So! you go to the cardPresso website, where you can find all about the differences between the 5 versions of cardPresso except! how much the darn editions cost. It just says 'please contact us'?? I am not trying to decipher nuclear codes. I am simply in the market for some software to allow me to produce little plastic ID badges. If you only need to make a few basic badges a month, this edition will do that. For anything more, I would recommend going elsewhere, such as Easy Badges.
