4 Stars for vacuum, 5 stars for customer service
I purchased this vacuum in June 2023. I wanted a more convenient vacuum to quickly access versus my conventional upright vacuum. I immediately noticed what many reviewers mentioned: very good carpet performance (for a stick vacuum, my upright still does a more thorough job) but only adequate on hard floor: it seemed like the low clearance of the brush portion was too low and it would often only push around much of the floor debris unless it was very small or light (like fine dust or hair). In the kitchen, pieces of rice, oatmeal, etc. is often too large for the vacuum to easily suck up.I never had any issues mechanically with the vacuum until two weeks ago: the brush stopped spinning. I opened up the brush portion and noticed a plastic gear, which was attached internally to the brush and driven by the motor belt, had cracked become dislodged from the brush. I saw the part number stamped on the part itself and asked Black and Decker if I could purchase just that part versus warranting the whole vacuum. I'm sure it costs about $2 but they notified me that they don't sell that part individually. They offered to warranty the entire vacuum for this one tiny broken part which seemed entirely inefficient but I certainly appreciated my issue being remedied in a very timely fashion. I received the new vacuum in the mail a few days ago and it worked perfect. I really wish more producers, like Black and Decker in this case, would promote repair versus replacement in the name of efficiency, but this experience certainly elevated my view of Black and Decker.

Much better than I expected a cordless to be.
This is the first cordless vacuum I have ever tried. I was hoping it would be easier to use than the monster corded vacuum I own. I have a thorough hatred of power cords when vacuuming. I already own several Black&Decker 20V cordless tools, so trying out this cordless vacuum made sense. The vacuum works much better than I expected. It is picking up all sorts of dust and hair the big machine missed. It is so much lighter and easier to maneuver that vacuuming is less of a chore. I can just grab a battery and be vacuuming in under 30 seconds and then put it away - so I am vacuuming more often. It seems to work on hard floors and short fiber rugs - bot not on small thin throw rugs which can get caught up in it. I have no thick long fiber carpet to try it on.It seems to be well built (but I may add to this review in the future if there are problems) and is really easy to breakdown and set up. I have used it as a one hand cordless vacuum and that feature works extremely well also. I did not order the pet attachments.Power: Forget trying to use a 1.5 AH 20V battery on this vacuum, it will go through it in a few minutes and start losing suction. 2.0 AH is better, but it does not last long enough for a thorough house cleaning either - maybe one or two rooms. I own a couple 7 AH 20V batteries and THOSE work well. I wear out long before the battery does - but they are heavy so the wrist and arm can get sore using these a lot. I would say the sweet spot is 3 AH to 5 AH, but I really like the 7AH for long duration cleaning. If you go with a high AH battery then invest in a fast charger for it - I can recharge the 7 AH in an hour or two using the fast charger (but it isn't totally dead when I do this)Pros: The vacuum has a set of led lights that indicate on strong the motor in the vacuum is working. With the vacuum on high, it should have 3 LEDs lit up - when you see two just change out the battery because you are wasting your time trying to vacuum with a weak suction. The vacuum stick is metal and seems well made. The dust container is very easy to dump and clean out. The unit stands by itself in my closet - I already had a charging area set up so I am not using the charger rack to hang it from.Cons: It hates small throw rugs - especially light ones whose corners get sucked up into the machine and cause it to shut off.

Don’t buy!
Don’t buy! This was my first cordless vacuum, I liked it at first, but found the suction is poor, it doesn’t have power to suck up some crumbs, just push them around…… sometimes when you turn it off it drops a lot of dust regardless of how clean the filter is. Hair gets stuck on either side of the roller of the carpet vacuum attachment often, and that would burn/melt and would smell. I bought this vacuum twice! because the carpet vacuum attachment broke on the first one, but thought it was good enough and I didn’t care to look for something else. The carpet head stopped working on the second one less than a year later! So I got the Dewalt model DCV501HB. And the power is significantly stronger. it’s a less complex system because it doesn’t have a roller that will fail and render the vacuum useless for my apartment!
