Van Gogh Watercolor Paint Set, Plastic Pocketbox, 24-Half Pan General Selection

As an aspiring watercolor artist, I recently had the pleasure of working with the Van Gogh Watercolor Paint Set in the Plastic Pocketbox, specifically the 24-Half Pan General Selection. To say that I was impressed would be an understatement. This set is a pocket-sized treasure trove for artists, offering a blend of quality, convenience, and creativity that has the potential to inspire both beginners and seasoned artists.The quality of Van Gogh watercolors is unquestionable. Each half-pan of paint in this set boasts vibrant, highly pigmented colors that glide smoothly onto paper. The consistency and intensity of the hues are simply stunning. Even diluting the paints with water retains the color's brilliance, making it easy to achieve the desired transparency or opacity. This set is a testament to the superior craftsmanship that Van Gogh is renowned for.One of the standout features of this set is its portability. Housed in a sturdy, pocket-sized plastic box, it's the perfect companion for artists on the go. The half-pans can be easily removed and placed on a palette, and the lid can be used as a mixing surface, which is a thoughtful touch for those who prefer to mix their colors. This watercolor paint set is absolutely worth it! The colors are so rich and vibrant—they make every painting look stunning. I use it for client work, and the quality is consistently amazing. If you’re thinking about it, go for it—it’s such a great investment!

Superb quality

I think Van Gogh watercolors are terrific and this half pan set has more than enough bright vibrant colors to cover most subjects. I contacted the company and I asked if they see these colors as student or professional grade - the said “neither.” They said they consider Van Gogh watercolors “Artist” grade - meaning they have fewer color options available than professional paints (now 40 but soon to be more) but the paints themselves are higher quality than “Student” grade. I agree. All Van Gogh colors are archival - lasting over 100 years. They are also easily hydrated so they quickly give you plenty of rich vibrant color to play with. The colors mix easily and the addition of a brush and tipping off sponge makes this watercolor set a pleasure for any artist in the studio and in the field.My only minor complaint is... you need to unwrap the 24 paper wrapped half pans and if you don’t open the box carefully, you’ll be picking the half pans up off the floor. With that out of the way, this is a great watercolor set that is certainly worth the price.I hope you give them a try - I think they are a terrific!P.S. I bought these after buying the 12 set which came in a very nice plastic travel case with an awesome little travel brush. The paints are very secure in that case. Not so with the 24 ct. The 24 ct paints are the same quality with some colors repeated. Mine came in the packaged box inside an envelope. The paints were wrapped; however they had spilled inside the factory box in the case. I unwrapped them and placed them back in the case to find that I only had 23 colors. I used them anyway and the paint is decent quality. However, if you tilt the case, the paints all spill out inside the case and you have to place them back in their spots each time. If you are going to leave them on a table and never move them, they will be just fine. If you have a better case to transfer them to, buy them. I upgraded to Winsor Newton liquid and bought an empty pallet for them. I do like some of the colors in the Van Gogh, and still use them but my 12 ct set would have been adequate. Based on the condition which mine arrived and the inferior case, I cannot recommend this set. Money could have been better spent.

It is convenient to carry around and the colors are vibrant. The only downside is the colors are easy to fall out of place.

This may have been opened previously. Received the paints but it is missing the brush I had to reorganize the pans because they were not in the pan spaces, they were just thrown inside the plastic pallet. Haven’t tried the paints yet.
