Excellent Ballpoint Pen that Matches the Entire Lamy 2000 Line
The Lamy 2000 fountain pen has been on display at the MoMA (the New York Museum of Modern Art) for years due to its design, and this Lamy 2000 ballpoint, though slimmer in diameter, has the same shape characteristics that make it a classic. Visually, though lovely, it does not seem to necessarily grab your attention through any overt or unusual features. But pick it up, and you'll see immediately that the smooth, semi-cylindrical shape with gentle curving arc throughout the body make it an unusually comfortable writing device to hold. The pen is also made with that strange, "etched" fiberglass material from Bayer ("Makrolon") that is both unusual and also with just the right weight characteristics. It can probably be a legitimate "ding" against this particular pen that it can only take the Lamy M 16 refills, but these write so well that it almost feels you are writing with a gel ink rollerball. My wife has purchased three of these now for me over the years (including also the Lamy 5mm 2000 Mechanical Pencil with Brushed Ss Clip (L101/5), and the Lamy 2000 Rollerball Pen, Black (L301) ), and it's one of my favorite sets. A fountain pen is also part of this set (the Lamy 2000 Matte Black Fountain Pen, Extra Fine Nib, (L01EF)).They hit just the right place between cost and usability, so you can just enjoy using them, and they really are a pleasure to use. They are all still made in Germany by Lamy, and it shows when you use them. Five stars.

Happy With My Purchase
I like the girth of this pen. The barrel shape and dimensions remind me of the Lamy studio ballpoint pen, which I really like. The 2000 ballpoint pen is much lighter than the studio model, but nonetheless it is nicely weighted and fits just right in the hand. This pen has a spare industrial feel and look, with its matte barrel and brushed stainless steel accents. It was clearly designed to be more functional than pretty, and despite its lightweight heft, it is a quality pen. The clicker is smooth and silent, and the pen unscrews midway, revealing an invisible seam, not noticeable at first glance. It came with a Lamy M16 ballpoint refill that I am a fan of, since this ink writes as smooth as butter. I am satisfied with my purchase indeed.

First class engineering, but pricey
I have really become so jaded with cheap ballpoint pens that leak, have terrible ink, or just run out. So I was searching for a quality ballpoint and settled on the Lamy 2000 Ball Point Pen. Everything about this pen screams quality. I can't believe how precise this pen is. I couldn't figure out how to see the cartridge - there was no seam in the pen body! But a slight bit of pressure and it unscrewed. You cannot see the seam when the pen is screed closed! The action is tight and the ballpoint makes those cheap ball points look like a basketball in a bucket. The tolerances are simply amazing. This is the best of German engineering. Some people have said the shape isn't good but this fits my hand perfectly. The design is sublime. What really sold me on this was that it was stainless steel and Macrolon. Now I know that's just a fancy word for plastic (polycarbonate if you want to get picky). But I knew it would be light and I was right. It just floats in your hand. The color and the brushed finish are beautiful.I would give it 5 stars across the board but I had to deduct for the "Value for money" category. This pen is pricey, and if you don't put real monetary value on the design and materials you might feel ripped off. I generally don't view art through the lens of "value," but I do value this pen as art.

Design beauty - assembly flaw, maybe?
The Lamy 2000 is definitely a praiseworthy pen. The design is gorgeous; it looks like it's going to be heavier, but it manages to combine a light weight with a perfect body width. The brushed silver accents look really striking against the black body. No problem so far with the ink - neither the black that came with the pen nor the blue refill I bought because I generally don't write with black ink. Both refills (med point) are fine; they're not smooth like a Jetstream but definitely not draggy or skippy. My only issue with this pen so far is that the clip is a little jiggly. I'm not sure whether it's supposed to be like that or if it's an assembly flaw; I'm a little worried that the piece is going to come off, which is bothersome when I've spent $45 on the one pen. I'm hoping it's supposed to be that way and will stay strong and in place, because other than that I really like this pen.

Not Bad. Not Great. Doesn't Feel Like A Lamy.
I don't have concerns about this being a fake. It's comparable to the pictures at the Lamy site. And I realize it's supposed to be light, being fiberglass. But if you've used almost exclusively a Lamy fountain--of quality, such as the 2K or Studio--this won't feel like what you're expecting from Lamy. And certainly not for the cost. The redeeming quality: For a ballpoint, the Lamy ballpoint does write very nicely. Very smooth. Very little pressure is required to write a nice, smooth line of text. But, again, to me, I'm not sure I can reconcile the cost for that, even for the name Lamy. After all, it's not even branded, so there's not even a logo. It looks like a generic plastic barrel; though, a nice generic plastic barrel. If lost or otherwise, I won't buy it again. But should it last, I will likely get the Lamy refills for when I do prefer a ballpoint, which is, truth be told, fairly rare.
