small, handy camera that's easy to use and does the job.
a small camera that gets the job done. sure there's a ton of other cameras out there that have more options and better quality images, but for the price, this dash cam 46 is all most people really need in a dash camera. all i need is for a camera to reliably make good recordings - no need for other fancy features like gps tracking, etc. it's small and discreet, easy to set up (especially with the built in lcd display), and affordable. basically like a set it and forget it type of camera. there's also the option to wirelessly link it to any other garmin camera(s) in their line-up should you want to add an additional rear facing camera. plus it has a voice command option to control features that you can use to turn certain options on and off (by saying "ok garmin", then the command - it works well and keeps you from having to reach up and fiddle with the buttons.) i really like garmin's mounting system with a simple, small magnetic disc that is the only thing that adheres to your windshield. it's actually really easy to transfer this camera from one car to another if you need to as they provide an additional metal disc if needed. the camera is very affordable, so i just went ahead and purchased another for my secondary car.other cameras in the past that i have used sometimes had long startup times before recording would begin - anywhere from 15 seconds even up to 30 seconds. this can be very inconvenient, as what if you're in an accident or somebody hits you within that time? sure, you could sit there and wait for the recording to begin, but i'm sure, most people like me prefer to drive off right after starting my car. the garmin camera starts up quickly and begins recording by about 10 seconds, which is very good in my opinion. anything in the 10 second range or lower is great as that's about the average time most take to pull out of a parking spot or so. so by the time you've started really moving, the recording process has begun.setting up was easy with everything being able to be done using the onscreen display. just make sure to perform the firmware update to get everything up to date and working properly. one thing i just noticed is the camera actually has an internal battery. the manual says when fully charged it can power the camera for up to 30 minutes. pretty cool, if you'll ever need it. it also works to continue recording after the power is turned off. you can set up this option to continue to record for a designated time after power is turned off - another convenient feature.so far have only had it for a few weeks now, but i love it so much more than previous dash cams i've had in the past. i will provide an update after some time to follow up on how the camera has held up.

great dashcam!
i bought this because I-35, Dallas North Tollway, 635, and basically all the major texas highways suck. i wanted something that could record all the time and if something were to happen then i could easily record it and access it on my phone. this dashcam does exactly that. the quality of the videos and pictures are good enough so that if i had to show the police what happened then they would be able to tell exactly what happened. its definitely worth the money. the bluetooth is probably the best part about it.

Dashcam Mixed Feelings
This is my first dashcam, so I don't have something to compare to.I bought this one primarily on the following features, which I will talk about (read down):* At least 1080 video.* GPS geotagging.* WiFi / App connectivity.* Brand support.VIDEO QUALITY: I thought 1080 would be good enough, but I have found that sometimes some licenseplates are unreadable on video playback. No fault of this camera, as daylight recording is crisp. Seems like higher camera resolution might be useful depending on your needs. I wouldn't recomend less!Night time recording is tricky, because of low light, glare. Even though this camera seems to have good dynamic range, night time recordings are not as fine as day ones. I wonder what a higher resolution would bring?.GPS DATA:This camera records your position, speed. In so far this works great.WiFi / APP CONNECTIVITY:This camera pairs with an App that you download on your smart phone. I have used the Android One.The app has kept my camera up to date firmware wise. No problem there. It also allows easy setup (instead of using the camera's built in screen and buttons). However, playback via WiFi of recorded video is so slow it's unusable. Perhaps your results will be diferent depending on your phone brand.BRAND SUPPORT:I do know there are cheaper products from no-name brands. And some of them might even work great! But since I am new to this, I decided to buy a product with good reviews, from a known brand, expecting to have support for years to come. I haven't have the need for support just yet, so I can't really tell how good customer support is. However the camera has received firmware updates, which is rare with some no-name products.OTHER THOUGHTS:This camera has other features that were not on my primary list. Some of them are nice to have though. There are voice commands. And they do work: I can enable/disable sound recording. I can take pictures. I can save/lock important videos.Other features like moving traffic, lane departure and colision warning seem to work most of the times (but not always).Since video playback over WiFi is so slow, the only sensible way to watch video recordings are by removing the video card from the camera and using a computer. Garmin do not provide software for this, so I had to go hunting online for some useful one. You may feel likewise. In the other hand, I am not into crashing my car or accidents, so removing the memory card for video reviewing is not something I do often, and so the slow WiFi is not such a bad thing.

Economical safety upgrade to older vehicle
After having my 2016 Tundra’s front bumper damaged in a parking lot. I bought this Garmin dash cam and wiring harness (sold separately) specifically to help identify a hit & drive off in the future. This camera and wire harness watch over my truck while I’m not there. The device has some additional features, which when I bought it I didn’t care about such as collision warning, lane departure warning, and an alert when traffic starts moving at a red light but I haven’t. After two months I have really begun to appreciate these features as well. I’m very happy with this dash cam.
