G-Technology 0G10347-1 G-DRIVE Mobile 4 TB with USB-C, Space Grey

I see that some people have had problems with this drive not working after a few months so I waited before writing this review just in case! Well, I haven't had any problems with it - it's plug and play, super easy to use. I have a Mac and have a couple of G-Drives, both of which have never given me any problems. They're small so they tuck behind the screen nicely and I take one away when I go on hols so that I have access to all my files just in case I get a rushed job request in. Small enough to fit in my handbag when I go away. I take them to all my client meetings along with my laptop and they've not failed me yet. That being said, I look after them, I have never dropped one so I can't say for sure how hardy they'd be if that happened, I also don't try to move them whilst the disk is still whirring away but wait for them to completely disengage from my computer and stop whirring before moving them. I moved house recently so they were tossed around in a box for a bit and still work just fine. Great disk capacity - I use one of them for complete system back-ups, data transfer is quick and easy.

Back up for my computer. I have only just installed the back up so can’t comment on it.

I use this to backup a macbook - I tried a couple of the WD Passport drives, which took forever to back up, then locked up the backup and then couldn't back up more than once and still couldn't get t the original back up - This G Drive (a 3 others) are trouble free, back up every time, quickly and efficiently, no weird back up partitions or other data transfer nonsense, just backed up, all listed all completely accessible, can be PW protected with out fuss too.

This is my regular backup drive. I previously bought a rival brand which failed after only three years or so, which itself replaced a still-working (to this day) G-Technology drive whose capacity simply wasn't big enough. And it is optimised for Macs, with software tools that the failed drive only had for Windows.

Great colours, easy to use and setup, work with Mac running latest software. Bought a warranty just incase and havent needed to use it thankfully. Have tried several of the usual brands (Lacie, WD, Seagate) and had issues with many of them after 6-12 months either dying or wiping my data. So far so good with this though!!

I use it for monthly off site backups, eg i back it up and then leave it round a relatives house.Just plugged in, reformatted to Mac format, job done.I use CCC to do the backups but any other app, Time Machine or indeed just drag and drop would work well as well I'm sure (I already have TM running onto two other disks so dont want all my eggs in the TM basket, I've had it fail on me before)

I was working on a large video editing project and ran out of hard drive space on my Macbook Pro. Read some reviews and the G-Drive came out on top of USB-C external hard drives. I used my Amazon Prime in the evening to get next day delivery of a 4 tb version so I could continue working. Amazon amazingly delivered at 1 pm the next day so I only lost a few hours work! Sadly the hard drive when plugged in failed to mount and though I could see it in storage devices it was invisible in finder. Wasted my time with lots of Mac Utilities tests which took hours but these did not work. In the end I had to move lots of files off my Macbook to continue working. A very expensive waste of time and failure. Do not buy!
