do the metal files come with a cover so it can be closed during travel?

Yes - a basic plastic sleeve, but it's enough. (my set only had two files)

Is it possible to disinfect/clean these, and if so, how?

I have only used the metal ones, those with black handles, but I confess I have never felt the need to clean them. They are metal so could easily be washed and disinfected. Once thoroughly dried they should be ok to use. They are very good nail files. I hope this helps.

Are these good for acrylic/gel nails?

The nail files should be strong enough .. the buffer is not suitable

Is this two identical files, or two different ones with four different grades?

Hi Mr Mcintosh, if they are the same items as mine, then they are two identical nail files with courser on one side. I can highly recommend the files they are good quality, and I especially like that you can run them under a tap to clean after use.
