Dremel 569D 1/16-Inch Carbide Grout Removal Bit

I bought so many different bits to work on a bathroom shower and tub surround, all covered in 3" tiles. None of them did what I wanted until I bought this one. I just finished the entire area with 1 bit! I pushed as hard or as light as I could depending where I was and it never broke. I am using a dremmel 4000 on low because that's honestly as fast as it needed to go to do the job. Already ordering more just to have!

It made my grout removal job in the shower walls so much easier. However, keep in mind that you might need more than one. For the 3 walls in a standard size bathtub I needed two of these. They eventually turn black and break off. Still saved so much time, that it was worth it.

Just a few things first. I have an old school Craftsman rotary tool I inherited that I used with this grout bit. I obviously didn't use it with the Dremel guide. Even if I had a Dremel I don't think I'd use the guide. I have been using it to rough up and get some of the 40 year old grout out so I can just regrout over it. Retiling is not a job I want to tackle at this point. I found that if I kept the bit at an angle and pulled towards me it did a great job. I bought two bits and I've almost completely finished with all the horizontal grout lines and I'm still on the first bit. I have been taking my time so the tool and bit doesn't get too hot. I tried several other methods before using this bit and it has made this job so much easier. I definitely recommend 👌

Did a re-grout on a shower base with hex tile poorly grouted 2x before. Used 4 of these. One broke in under 10 min, the other 3 lasted over an hour of constant grinding. My one tip is to start the dremel at half speed when the bit is fresh and sharp. As the bit dulls, increase the speed gently.Also tried an assortment of diamond and titanium coated bits in multi packs. Grout is strong and melted those in 5-6 minutes each at medium speed.

I bought one of these last week locally at HD, and then ordered this one here after the HD one wore out in about 10 standard 5"x5" tiles worth of work and it became clear that I'd need more than one and probably a ton of these bits to regrout the shower. I didn't want to order a ton of these on Amazon right off the bat, because you can never be quite sure what's in stock here. Sometimes it's some weird counterfeit product that isn't as good as the real thing. I wish I *had* ordered a ton, though, because the first one absolutely TORE through about a third of the shower's grouting job before I burned the rechargeable Dremel I was using out. That's right - the Dremel (7 years old, to be fair) died before the bit dulled. LOL. RIP, 'lil Dremel, long live your plug-in replacement.I tragically dropped the Amazon-sourced bit as I was taking it off of the dead Dremel, and the tip snapped off of it, but I had already stopped mid-job and ordered another one after seeing what it was capable of. Now I have to work with another Home Depot one until that one arrives. :( Guess I'll see if the next HD one can get through 6 tiles worth of grout this time.

This grout remover drillbit worked phenomenally, and never got dull. I would recommend this to anyone looking to clean out old, grout and put in new grout. It was also beneficial to pulling out tile.

Disappointing. It worked great for the first 30 minutes until it didn't. At some point the tip completely sheered. It would take a dozen of these to finish my project. Emphasis on "small repair jobs" in the description should be taken literal, I guess.

I’m removing old grout from my stone tile shower floor. Not because it’s crumbling, but because I’m tired of mold forming there. Let’s face it, cement based grout is porous, even with sealer, so I’m replacing the old grout with epoxy grout. Laticrete, purchased here on Amazon.com, which is 100% waterproof, and comes in many colors. (Tip: Order a color chart from Laticrete, you can’t trust the colors shown on the screen of an electronic device).I’ve found that starting with an oscillating tool with a grout blade is a good place to start, but if your grout line a a bit thicker than 1/8th of an inch, you’re still going to have old grout on the inside walls of the tile. This is where the Dremel grout bit shines. Not that it’s not good for all of your grout removal, I’m just trying speed up the process for my project. Your “pilot” lines are already there, left over by the oscillating tool blade, so when you insert this Dremel bit, it quickly knocks off the remaining grout from the side walls. It’s also great for grout lines that meet at a wall, where no oscillating tool blade will fit. (Attached image shows the top tile that has been gone back over with this Dremel bit; notice there is no grout left on the side walls of the tile. Unlike the tile directly beneath).
