How to Play Bawu and Hulusi: A Beginner’s Guide to these Popular Chinese Wind Instruments

A bit pricey for the size, but clear explanations for the beginner
If you're looking for hulusi books in English, this is your only option. The book introduces the basic hulusi techniques as well as the various advanced techniques that make hulusi tunes more than just flute ones.Beyond the technique, the book covers maintenance, jianpu notation (all scores you'll find for the hulusi will use that notation rather than Western music notation), a selection of half a dozen simple Western tunes that can be played on the hulusui, and finally a selection of a dozen famous tunes traditionally played on the hulusi. It is a very good book to get started, and you can get recordings on the author's website. My only criticism would be that it could contain more traditional tunes, considering the price, but since the author has a dedicated volume of hulusi tunes, this is understandable.

A bit light on content
Bought this because the title led me to believe that it might contain more than it did. Although the two instruments are very similar, there are several pages that are copied word for word for each, on how to hold them and which fingers to use. There is some useful info on Numbered notation and a few Western and Chinese tunes to play but although the author points to his website for examples to listen to, I couldn't find any mention on his site.I was hoping for more of an introductory course, with simple fingering exercises etc. as it is supposed to be aimed at beginners. As the only English language book I could find on these instruments it was rather disappointing.
