Q: Will this work in freshwater aquarium

Yes, it will remove phosphate from freshwater.

Q: How does this compare to the gfo from brs?

Similar, looks the same. My Phosphates are at 0 so it is doing its job. I change it every three weeks so not sure about longevity, I think the BRS product only needs to be changed every 2 months, so that may be something to look into.

Q: Can this be used in a fresh water tank with a sump?

Yes, this will work in freshwater with a sump. You will want to place the GFO in a mesh bag or media reactor, to keep it contained.

Q: How often should you change the GFO out?

Check your phosphate. When the phosphate goes up change it out. You want it to be low but not zero. You will get cyno blooms then.
