This Filter Wants To Slap Your Water Into Shape
I'm not really sure why I see nothing but reviews from 4-5 years ago on here complaining about discontinued products? Maybe it's because no one likes to write reviews about water filters...... What I do know is that the current product, DA29-0003G, is a great filter. I have a 3-year old Samsung fridge that I buy these for, and they work great every single time. I'm not an expert on filters, so you'll have to forgive me if my method of measuring their ability to work is too simple. I use a 2-part method: 1. How does the water taste? 2. How hard is it to install? 1. The water tastes so good I'd slap my mamma for pouring some out. 2. I give it a twist to remove, and a turn to install. Now for a moment of total honesty with anyone reading this review - I am a rule-breaker. My Samsung has a filter button that goes from the Blue Everything-is-Cool light to the Red I'll-Blow-Up-Your-House light when it is time to switch the filter. Trust me when I tell you that this light does its best to intimidate you into changing your filter. However, I don't change my filter, and after a couple of days it goes back to blue. That's right - I let these bad boys ride out two-cycles of usage in my fridge. And do you know what? It doesn't blow up or start sending out green slime water. It just keeps on working and tasting great. All in all, this is the best priced version of this filter that I have found. I have bought 3+ of these from Amazon so far, and every single one of them works fantastic.

Great product, new update.
This water filter came with our Samsung refrigerator. I need my water filtered for health reasons and this product does what it says it's suppose to. It is also priced right and so easy to purchase on Amazon. It lasts six months exactly in our area of the USA. We are very pleased with this product. UPDATE ON MY PREVIOUS REVIEW. Since my first review I needed to change my filter as 6 months had passed. I ordered the filter, it arrived in perfect condition and packaged well. I have never had problem removing the old filter and installing a new one. I removed the old one and no matter what I did the new one would not go in. Since there had never been a problem before I considered it defective. Amazon as always accepted my return and replaced it immediately. The replacement arrived and again I could not install it. I absolutely have to have filtered water due to health reasons. Buying a new refeigerator is out the question so I called my local applicance repair store. The end result was the filter housing had to be replaced. The bill for the housing was $200.00. Cheaper than a new fridge, but seriously. Its now time to re-order another filter. I just really hope there are no issues. The filter works well once installed and the price has gone up, but when one figures out the daily cost and we drink tons of water its worth the price.

New and Improved!
Update #3 (Jan 2020) After years of making a filter that did not fit properly, Samsung has finally taken it upon themselves to fix their old flawed design. This updated filter has new revised "teeth" (see photo) that requires no cutting, trimming, or modifications like the older filters (old filter on left). Other differences include: -Made in Korea, Not Mexico anymore -Only Slightly Slower Output (More Filtration ) -Lubricated O Ring -Blue Cap, No Longer Red -Revised Colors/Font/Packaging -Counterfeit Detection Code w/ Online Verification Conclusion: Still the best water filter on the market for your Samsung Refrigerator and after many years, a design that finally fits. Update: This redesigned filter now meets additional NSF standards for chemicals like DEET. Filtration and taste is still the best on the market. Having tried Culligan, Home Depot, and other off-brands, this Samsung/3M/AquaPure is the best to use. Bite the bullet and pay a little extra for this filter. FYI: Still requires the use of a utility knife to trim plastic mounting area. FYI: Packaging has been updated. Product has been improved. Samsung changed the design of this filter so that when you install it, it will not fit no matter what. Instead you need to find the pics that someone posted, take out a utility knife, and cut the plastic until it fits. If it wasn't for the NSF certification, I would just stick with the Home Depot filters that fit perfectly.

if you are going to waste your time lubricating the o-rings
I had been buying the off-brand filters for a while and decided to go back to the original Samsung replacement filter as it has both NSF 42 and 53 ratings versus only NSF 42 for the off-brands. Problem: Samsung in their infinite wisdom to avoid supplying 2 filters instead of 1, changed the design and all replacement filters come with 3 teeth instead of 2 teeth that were on the older model DA29-00003B which came with the unit. This was likely some 6-sigma project gone awry (let's save Samsung money and enrage the customers). Now, with the Samsung-brand replacements with 3 teeth you have to put up with the impossible installation process (potentially breaking off the interior manifold) in which some folks are saying all you have to do is to lubricate with olive oil (!?!?#) and wrestle it in place. Someone graciously posted photos about shaving off 0.5mm of plastic from a tooth and unfortunately it shows the wrong tooth being shaved. I took a box cutter and carefully zipped-off the top of the first tooth (yes, the left-most tooth of the 3-not the last or right-most tooth). Placed the blade parallel to the bottom and pulled it back so only the top of the first (left-most) tooth was removed. Repeat for the other side. Always being careful to ensure the box cutter does not come back and shave off a piece of me. Note: if you are going to waste your time lubricating the o-rings, use a food grade silicon and only a tiny amount at that. Since this will be the standard method for each new filter, I thought it would be helpful to everyone out there owning an older model Samsung refrigerator. I have a model RFG297AARS/XAA purchased from Lowes Sept 2008. No problems with the refrigerator so far. Only 4 stars due to the owner-required repair prior to installation. Samsung...love their electronics, hate their appliances.

Replaced Original DA29-00003F in Samsung Model #RS22HDHPNBC
My Samsung refrigerator (Model #RS22HDHPNBC) originally came with the DA29-00003F filter but after reading reviews on Amazon I purchased this DA29-00003G filter as my first replacement after 6 months since it is supposed to filter the water better. The new G filter was the same size as the F filter but the "teeth" that hold it in place were shaped slightly different (the G filter teeth have sharp angles whereas the F filter had smooth curves). Despite the difference in the "teeth", the G filter installed easily with no water leak inside the refrigerator. I dispensed water and there was a lot of air in the line that caused splashing (I probably should have tried to fill the filter with water from the tap before I installed it to limit the amount of air), but the air dissipated after the 4th or 5th glass was filled. I originally gave the filter 4 stars because the dispenser was dripping after the replacement, but after a day the dripping stopped. Someone else also noted a drip in their review that resolved over time, they said it was due to air in the line. My wife and I feel the water tastes better after changing to the G filter, it's cleaner tasting than with the F filter. We had reverse osmosis system before, so we are very sensitive to abnormal taste in our water. I noticed on the box that the original F filter was good for 500 gallons whereas the new G filter says it's only good for 300. The original F filter lasted almost exactly 6 months before the water started tasting bad, so I'll be interested to see if the G filter lasts as long since it's not rated for as many gallons. Considering how much more expensive this filter is compared to the generic replacement F filters, I will be disappointed if I don't get 6 months out of each of them. Despite the cost, I am very happy with the filter.

Beware of Plastic Tasting Water Due to old degraded filter!
I ordered three of these filters through Amazon. The first two had no plastic wrapping to seal the filter. At first, I thought that this was standard until I purchased another from Amazon, and another from Best Buy. If yours arrives and is not sealed in plastic, I would recommend sending it back. The first two changed my perfectly pleasant tasting water to plasticky-fruit flavored water that was undrinkable. I tried flushing gallon after gallon to get rid of the taste, to no avail. I was suspicious of the red plastic cap that came with the filter. When I smelled it, it had the same sickening plastic smell as my water. I was pregnant at the time, and the thought I drinking the decomposed plastic was very disconcerting. I decided to order a third filter through Amazon, thinking that I had just bad luck with the first two. The third did come plastic wrapped, but there was still a strong chorine and plastic taste. I flushed and flushed again. I was starting to wonder if there was something wrong with my 6 month old Samsung Fridge. I had read other reviews that questioned Amazon's quality control on this product, so I decided to experiment and buy a filter from a store. I went to Best Buy and told them the issue I was having. They said that there was no way to know how long the Amazon filter had been sitting on the shelf, and perhaps it had begun to degrade. I was skeptical but still paid $10.00 more than the Amazon price to do an experiment. At the time I was feeling quite upset that I no longer could use my new fridge to drink filtered water (I had been drinking tap for a month due to the first three defective filters) and was not anticipating that the Best Buy filter would make a difference. I plugged in the Best Buy filter (which was sealed, by the way) and voila, my water tastes good again. I strongly recommend buying this filter from a retailer who has not been storing these for extended period of time. It is worth the extra 10 bucks and all trouble! The only pleasant part of this experience is that Amazon has a great return policy and has accepted all of the defective filters back for a full refund.

The BEST Samsung Filter! Fitted instead of DA29-00003F I previously had!
In my country they only sell the DA29-00003F, which complies with NSF/ANSI 42 only (Chlorine taste and odor, and particulates). This DA29-00003G filter is sold in the US, and it complies with: NSF/ANSI 42 (Chlorine taste and odor, and particulates) NSF/ANSI 53 (Asbestos, Benzene, Carbofuran, Cysts, Lead/Mercury, P-Dichlorobenzene) NSF/ANSI 401 (Meprobamate, Atenolol, Carbamazepine, Trimethoprime, Linuron, DEET). I didn't want to keep using the simple filter, so I said - I can get it in Amazon! But then I read reviews saying that if you have a DA29-00003F, you cannot replace it with DA29-00003G, as it will never fit into the filter housing. I looked for the housing that fits with DA29-00003G, in order to replace it in my refrigerator, but it wasn't clear if I could get the right part. Eventually I decided to buy it on Amazon and handle the situation when I install it. I was amazed to see that it fitted perfectly! It even had the very same shape of tooth - just like the DA29-00003F. I'm not sure if Samsung decided to resolve this issue and make them identical in shape, or if there are refrigerators in which only the DA29-00003F would fit (I'd say it's the first option, as they look identical) - but bottom line is, that it fits perfectly, the water filtering quality is much higher, and it's a genuine Samsung filter.

The real deal
These are the OEM product, filtering metals, cysts, etc. - not just chlorine for flavor
