Review: Beautiful Book - I love the Earthsea series and this is a beautiful book. I needed Daughter of Odren and wanted this book anyway, even though that's just a short story. First time I got it the pages were all folded in because the delivery driver clearly checked to see if it was valuable (it's very weighty!) but I sent it back and got a mint copy. Lovely book. Review: All around the world - I've enjoyed the Earthsea stories for a long time, and have previously read the six major books (five novels and one collection of short stories) in the cycle, plus two short stories which originally pre-dated the first novel. They've all been collected together in this handsome volume, together with two stories from much later (one of which first appeared last year after the death of the author), and the text of a lecture by le Guin about her creation. Having the complete collection in one place is satisfying, although - as other surprised reviewers have pointed out - it makes for a hefty book of just over a thousand pages. The illustrations in this edition are a nice touch although - perhaps inevitably for someone who's conjured up their own pictures of the people and places in the story - they didn't always align with my imagination (I thought the dragons in the pictures had very small back legs, for example). After having read some of the comparisons of the quality of the UK and US edition of this book, I ordered the latter (which is slightly more expensive, but has a dust jacket), and received it just after Christmas. I took great pleasure in reading through the whole collection, reminding myself of the quality of the writing and how it was used to create a fascinating, detailed world of profound and stimulating beauty.

Heavy
Beautiful book with nice illustrations but it is very very heavy.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever
This beautifully presented book is just such a thing. LeGuin was a singular writer and Earthsea has no peers. Charles Vess is a lauded illustrator and artist and rightly so. The pairing has resulted in one of the finest books I posess. The book is finely made from the robust yet stylish dust-cover to its fabulous illustrations. I cannot praise it too highly.

Beautiful illustrations of a magical text.
This year I went to WorldCon in Dublin, and was there when Charles Vess got not one, but two, Hugos! I also went to his talk about his life and art, so I was delighted to get the illustrated Books of Earthsea. I've loved Earthsea since I discovered The Wizard of Earthsea in the school library when I was 14, so this has been a very long term fandom, and it's a pleasure to see the stories illustrated so beautifully.

Gorgeous edition
Stunning. My local bookstore owner will be very jealous that I’ve got a copy, after our recent conversation about Earthsea and how much he wants this edition of the series.

Never such a thing as too much Earthsea
You can never have too much Earthsea or LeGuin Prefer this edition to gray covered otherwise illustrated version. Curiously search required ‘Vess’ to bring up on Amazon. Still some bookshops shelve ‘LeGuin’ as ‘Guin’ strange people.

Exceptionally poor quality
I was very sad to hear from the child I gave this book to as a Christmas gift that it has fallen apart. It was meant to be cherished for many years, it didn't last two months.

In addition to having all the Earthsea books, this print contains afterwords from the author and illustrations. The print cover is well-made. Of course it’s a bit cumbersome but that is expected due to size.

Bonne reliure, qualité d'impression, belles illustration pour un prix très correct vu le nombre de pages.

I'm a bibliophile. I love books, actual books, hardback books, the look of them, the feel of them in the hand, the solidity and weight of them, even their smell, of ink and paper, cloth, thread and glue. I recently purchased Ursula K. Le Guin's The Books of Earthsea, Complete Illustrated Edition, an omnibus that contains all the novels of Earthsea (six in all), all the short stories, including one never before published, her Oxford Lecture on Earthsea from 1992, a new foreword and afterwords in her own voice, all beautifully illustrated by Charles Vess. My heart is happy. It's a big, thick, heavy book, beautifully bound in red cloth with gold lettering, encased in a dust jacket showing dragons of several colors circling a little boat navigating a rough, rock-strewn sea. People used to handling paperbacks and Kindles and similar devices will no doubt find it unwieldy, heavy and cumbersome. For fellow bibliophiles, however, these are all plusses. The story is one that has captivated me since I was a small child, and it has held up well over the years. I find it just as enchanting now as I did way back then, when I first read A Wizard of Earthsea in the first grade. For Ms. Le Guin, who died in 2018, this edition, collected, annotated and illustrated to her specifications, was her swan song, a worthy product of a worthy Maker whom the world will not see the likes of again. Thank you, Ms. Le Guin, for this and all the stories you've told to a lonely, peculiar child for all these years.
