Great product but no instructions
These are sturdy cast aluminum scoops just as stated in the description. 5 ounces sounded like a lot but they actually seem kind of small, though good enough for home use. They didn't come with any instructions so if you're having difficulty using them, allow me to provide the following as a guide. First, you only need to use one at a time in most cases. Second, and more importantly, the material you wish to transfer should be powdered, cubed, or crushed before attempting to scoop (these are pretty worthless on large blocks of material like large blocks of ice or fruit). The key is to insert the scoop end into the material at roughly a 45 degree angle with the concave side facing up. Continue inserting the scoop until the material makes contact with the back of the scoop closest to your hand. At this point, gently tip the scoop to raise the opening until it is slightly higher than the handle, then lift the scoop from the material. If you miss this step the material will simply fall back into its container. Carefully maneuver the scoop over the vessel into which you would like to place the material, taking care not to make violent motions. While taking careful aim, slowly tip the end of the scoop into the vessel until the material transfers from the scoop to the vessel. Practice with a spoon until mastered if you're still having difficulty, but if you follow these simple instructions I'm sure these scoops will provide years and years of service.

Nice Quality Scoops!
Perfect size for using with my new canisters! They are solid cast aluminum so they are light. There are 2 notches on the underside of the handle so they are actually nicer to grip. I am pleased with the quality.I was reading reviews on this and saw people giving these a bad review because they turned colour after putting in the dishwasher. I was irritated by those comments because this was obviously due to washing the aluminum incorrectly and not ANY defect of the product! YOU DON'T PUT ALUMINUM IN THE DISHWASHER! BUT if you insist on doing so and your aluminum does turn colour, it can be removed by something like Barkeeper's Friend. I use aluminum cookie sheets and even the beater for my Kitchen Aid is aluminum, they need hand washing and also be careful what you use to dry aluminum items because a towel will likely also turn black (comes out in the wash though) - the black is an oxidation kind of reaction not a defect!

Nice heavy, solid aluminum quality - work fine.
Tarnished a little after washing for the first time (I don't think they're supposed to go in the dishwasher), but I use them with my flour canisters and they fit perfectly and do the job. My only complaint is that the metal on glass is a little loud, but that's what I would expect with any metal scoop (and hopefully doesn't cause any breakage problems!). They are actually made of a nice heavy aluminum, not light at all. They are great.

Worked great for popcorn bar...
These did just what I wanted. I used them for the popcorn bar at my wedding reception. They are a good size for people's hands, felt smooth to the touch, and scooped up just the right amount of popcorn for the bag. I did wash by hand, which is what I expected for something made out of aluminum... but I wash a lot of things by hand to keep them nicer. Dishwashers ruin a lot of things. I don't expect these to wear out, but If I ever needed a scoop again, I would order this again... but I expect I won't need to as these will last a long time if you hand wash. Also, you can't beat the price, to my knowledge (I looked and looked-- at the time I purchased).

Useful and attractive
These are very durable and useful. I have been using one of them to scoop up bleaching powder for my laundry. The aluminum material is tough enough to break up caked powder, and not much was sticking to the polished surface. (Don't use them with strong caustics like lye / caustic soda, as those will corrode aluminum.)Speaking of polish, these scoops are definitely shiny enough for use with a cocktail set, and they feel solid yet light in the hand. These are basically what you want in a scoop

Aluminum Scoop - Not so Nice in the Dishwasher!!
I read the reviews before I ordered, so I wasn't surprised or unhappy with the hallow handles, etc. However, I don't know if it's just me that didn't know this (and it could have had directions with them that I didn't notice or read) but I put them in the dishwasher and that was a major mistake. They went from pretty shiny scoops to dull ugly dark metal scoops. So if you plan to hand wash them, I think they'll work fine for ice, candy, or whatever else - but don't put them in the dishwasher unless you like ugly scoops!!

Perfect little scoops.
These scoops are the perfect size and a great price. I keep my cereal in three glass canisters on a shelf in my breakfast nook. I always know how much I have and the kids know they can't open a new box until we have finished what is in a jar. I needed some scoops to keep in the jars and these are the perfect size and weight. I was thrilled at the price too.

Do not buy – low-quality
These are extremely low quality. I purchased them to scoop ice out of my icemaker. The surface quickly became molted and almost rusted looking. It almost looks like there was a thin veneer of aluminum over some other type of substance, and the something else is showing through, in a very nasty and unattractive way. I tried to clean them, to no avail. They obviously are not safe to touch food or ice at this point. I only bought them a few months ago, but they are not eligible for return, despite the fact that they are obviously unusable. Do not buy this product. Thanks.
