The photos don't show it, but there is also a hole down through the top of the head and out of the beak - so it can thread vertically as well as horizontally :)

Decided to grow my beard long a few months ago. It's the longest it's ever been. I wear the item low on my beard so it's as far away from my chin as possible. The item looks great.

Bought for wedding and looked good. I used a small rubber band under it and it stayed in place all day.
